Hi!
What’s your experience with Reverb.com? Has anyone sold/bought with Reverb.com?
Sold Analog 4 MKII recently and now it looks like I got scammed.
If anyone gets an offer to buy A4 MKII without a box and original purchase receipt, be aware it might be stolen goods.
You got the serial number?
Yes! Here it is:

Isn’t Reverb supposed to have a secured payment system?
A recent thread here:
These Reverb.com threads come up fairly regularly. I’ve had nothing but good experiences and I’ve sold over 40 items. What specifically happened to you as a seller where you didn’t get paid? The process should be that the buyer pays, Reverb confirms payment and holds it in escrow until you submit the tracking number and it says ‘In Transit’. After this, the funds are released to you. If you opt out of Reverb Payments, whereby the buyer pays the seller direct instead of using Reverb as escrow, then perhaps you expose yourself to scams. I’ve always used Reverb payments and I’m not sure how or why a person would/could opt out.
What happened in your case?
Not sure I would post your serial number here. Perhaps PM it to someone upon request if they’re concerned about buying your stolen item. Make sure it’s still registered with elektron.se as well.
Nothing but good experiences here - met lots of friendly musicians on Reverb and I generally find it a more pleasent and well-put-together experience than ebay.
As with @d4ydream I’m a bit confused how you could have been scammed as the seller. Be good to elaborate a bit on that.
The payment is taken immediately and Reverb hold it in escrow, only asking you to ship once they have it. If you’re a new seller then they’ll wait until delivery has been confirmed, if more experienced then they’ll approve the payment as soon as you generate the shipment.
Is the issue simply that you haven’t gotten the payment from reverb yet? If so, contact them via their chat system, if you have proof of delivery and the user has left positive feedback they’ll approve it immediately - if there’s an issue with the buyer we might need to know a bit more.
Full disclosure, I used to work there. But buyers/sellers/scammers don’t know that, so I think these are still legitimate stats?
I’ve bought 165 items from Reverb and sold 68 and never had a problem. I got a TR-8 that was badly packed and destroyed in shipping, but the seller took it back without a fuss.
When buying, the only time I didn’t use Reverb Payments (once they were available) was when getting a rare deal from an overseas pawn shop that only took PayPal, so I rolled the dice. Worked out, but also I was willing to risk it.
When selling, I’ve never shipped anything until I had the money in hand or, in the case of Reverb payments, Reverb told me the payment had cleared and it was okay to ship. I feel like, once they’ve done that, it’s on them to pay out (provided you can show proof of shipping).
Related, I always take a picture of how the item is packed, the shape of the box once sealed up, and one from the counter of the post office or whatever just in case it arrives banged up and I need to prove it wasn’t me that did it. But I’ve never needed them.
I also love Reverb. It’s slightly pricer but that’s the fee getting the items as it’s been described. So I also only have good experience with it. What makes you think that you got scammed? You didn’t got your payment yet?
In any case if you’re concerned you need to get in touch with them ASAP. After all it’s a company, you’re paying the extra fees technically to get customer support as well. I’m sure they’ll help you your situation.
Here’s a link that would pop up the support chat on the right hand side
Just reply to the bot that you want to talk to a real agent instead automated answers.
I’ve bought and sold a ton reverb, never had any issues and no scams. Their protections are solid as long as you follow the rules and dont scam yourself by doing a direct sale with paypal friends and family just to save a couple dollars in fees.
I’ll note, I’ve done no sales or buys from outside the country as well.
Well, I got the payment OK via PayPal and shipped my synth to Denmark. However, after it apparently arrived to the buyer’s address, and they actually took and signed for the delivery box. They later claimed that the original synth box was filled with wooden planks of similar weight, there was no synth inside and demanded a full refund! So, as far as Reverb are concerned the goods arrived not as described in the ad, therefore I must refund the buyer? Seems like a very simplistic scam or indeed, synth did get stolen in transit? I am at a total loss as to what to do in that kind of case.
I did buy an additional insurance for the value of the package, but insurance only works automatically when the parcel goes missing. My advice to everyone - open and check what’s in the box before the delivery guy goes away!!
All my other experiences with Reverb were good and I had only positive feedback.
in the past i’ve taken pictures of items packed so i have records of what they look like in case they arrived damaged. this wasn’t protection against scammy buyers, but against UPS or some other carrier.
my only advice is to talk to an actual person at reverb and see what they say. have you sold on reverb before? do you have any feedback? i’ve sold more than 100 items and i have perfect feedback, so i dont know if that would change Reverb’s calculus if somebody said i tried to scam them.
It’s still a better system than eBay. i have been sold defective stuff on there, but never on Reverb.
Interesting situation, it’s hard for either of you to actually ‘prove’ you’re telling the truth in such a scenario.
I feel like this should count for a lot - does the buyer have much feedback? In such a situation Reverb kind of has to make a choice about who they want to believe, I suspect they must have policy for this.
It’s not really any different to any situation in which a buyer claims the product is in a different condition to what it was sold as (albeit a rather extreme one) - there must be a dispute process for it.
And yea that’s another angle - complicates things. You and the buyer might both be victims.
If you are able to identify that the issue is with the buyer then I’ll give the same advice as I gave in the other Reverb thread: report the person for fraud. What they’re doing is a crime. Otherwise report the carrier. Either a theft or a fraud has taken place - I’d persue it even if just to document it.
Did you buy insurance from the carrier or reverb “protection” option?
With reverb I feel like I can get peace of mind. If something doesn’t arrive as described you can always work it out or return it. Also despite the rate increase it’s still a little cheaper than eBay.
Just had my first major disappointment but the partial refund I got was enough that I am satisfied.
I never know how eBay work out their percentages but I find it a lot cheaper selling through Reverb, especially with the tiny bump you get as a recommended seller
I bought insurance from a parcel carrier for the value of the item.
Did not see Reverb protection option? Are they covering worldwide or just the US? Because in the US they have options for shipping through Reverb, but not in Europe, I don’t think?
No reverb coverage outside the US
Since I don’t have the synth and it doesn’t look like I’ll get it back, might as well have the serial number in the public domain.
Keep it registered with Elektron. They can’t register it that way.
