Aah yes! That’s what the video is all about… 🫣

RK-008 is the gift that keeps on giving
these MIDI fx are going to be a godsend for generating new ideas
Forgive my ignorance here but what is an intended use case of converting note number/velocity to midi CC?
On the old Roland hardware sequencers you could ‘draw’ an automation lane by playing notes. Play your back track and open up a filter by playing notes from low to high, for example. Better with lots of octaves on your controller obviously.
Maybe it’s a nod to that - same sort of era as the MMT8
might also allow sequencing the 1010 razzmattazz drum box which doesn’t take notes but does take CC to use it as a pitch synth
New firmware is out.
2.38 MIDI FX fixes
FIXES:
• We limited the MIDI Delay note repeat parameter to 9
notes max (and it now listens to MIDI note panic
(ALT+STOP)
• VEL2CC/KEY2CC bug fix, this MIDI Event Transform FX
transformed a bit too much…MIDI FX ADDITIONS:
• VEL2CC and KEY2CC have another FX family member:
RND2CC. It generates a random CC value on a note
message.
Mine just arrived, and I’d like to get a battery for it. It seems like BL-5C is the way to go. Can anyone recommend a specific seller and is it necessary to look for the Nokia brand?
I got these on Amazon. Nokia is not neccesary. No issues with them.

You should turn the switch off on the back of the unit with the battery installed when not using it as it kills the battery even with the screen off.
Thanks!
Scoring a genuine Nokia battery for my RK008 was cheap and easy, but then again, that might be harder if one doesn’t live in Finland ![]()
Think i paid something like 8€ for it… IIRC…
Just checked the manual and can’t find any info on the sequencer resolution. Any idea?
96 ppqn, or as Gerrit put it in the rk forum: 4 times the MIDI resolution
New firmware is out, also updated manual.
2.40 The Assistants
FIXES:
• A detail, but we are annoyed by the fact that an
accidental initiated Part switch could not be
cancelled. But now you can: just press ALT when the
Part switch is in progress (while blinking) and the
queued Part change will be cancelled.
MIDI FX ADDITIONS:
• We reworked the stepTime Program/Bank Change
Assistant (digit 7) and added a Control Change
Assistant (digit 8). The new Control Change (CC)
Assistant simplifies the quick entry of CC values so
you don't need to go through the full fledged Event
Editor (stepTime/MODE) to make this happen.
wow, great additions! Need to update ASAP
How are people liking the RK008? I’m very interested, used to use a Roland mc50 for writing songs and absolutely loved it. Wondering if this compares in terms of editing. Is it fairly quick and easy to arrange a 200bar song?
Considering buying to pair with my op xy for a better way to lay out whole songs.
Using a combination of up to 8 parts (each which can address 16 channels) and song mode, the per part bar limit should not be a problem. However, there is a total event limit per song (for compatibility reasons) and so it really boils down to what you want to record exactly. Better to get in touch with Rk directly rather than to receive very approximate info here.
Yeah it only allows 16kb of memory per song or something like that.
Not really a problem for just midi notes but if you start recording a lot of automation and stuff it can get chewed up in a hurry
64kb
Ah yes, my bad it’s 64k.
Still - not a lot. I have the RK-008, I love it to death, it’s made things so much easier, I would never part with it, and the support and firmware updates are second to none.
But - the memory thing is literally my one gripe. The choice to restrict it in order to be compatible with an ancient bit of kit was a strange one in my books
