Replacement joystick for SFX-6 [Resolved]

Hi yall,

I traded someone my SFX-6 and in transport lost the knob of the joystick. The mechanism is fine just the top part.

Any replacements? I think I’m googling wrong because I cannot for the life of me find a replacement stick.

Thanks

Hey man, that’s a really really bad situation with something which is now becoming part of what would more or less be considered vintage gear. First off, the total number of sfx-6 produced is very low, and second, it’s been discontinued for some time now.

The top part, the specific original part I mean, if anyone has it or can order it then it’s going to be Elektron, otherwise if someone has one it will be expensive. If Elektron can’t sell you one, you’ll have the options of something custom made or something retrofit from some other device with a similar mechanism. Anyone other than elektron who has a replacement of the original and is already trying to sell it will undoubtedly try and make it very expensive for you to purchase due to the scarcity of the part.

I would contact Elektron and ask if they have something before you look any further, you may very well have to purchase the entire joystick mechanism just to get the cap, and elektron no longer services the mkI devices like this so it’s really not likely they have the part, but maybe they do and it’s worth a shot. If they don’t have one, then ask for the specs as far as dimensions and the metric thread size (if it’s threaded) so that you can seek out something aftermarket.

Is the person 100% certain that the cap is not still mixed in with the packing materials in the box somewhere? Very strange to completely lose that one part when it’s shipped inside of a sealed package. Proceed with caution and good luck, I hope you can work this out without too much grief.

As far as what it’s called, it might vary by the person or outlet - cap, grip, handle? Any of those could be appropriate. The part of the joystick when extends down into the actuator mecanism itself would usually be considered the shaft or maybe “actuator lever” and the cap or grip part probably screws down onto it.

When searching the internet, it’s going to be rare for something so specific to be listed for sale without the keyword “joystick” otherwise nobody would ever find it, so if the result is that you aren’t finding it then the likelihood is that it’s just not available, that’s why my first move here would be to contact Elektron directly.

Hey, thank you so much for the reply!

Right after i posted this I found it! Should I delete or keep it up just in case someone has a similar issue? It’s good advice
