Repairs/spare parts Mk 1 Octa

I’m being tempted by an Octatrack Mk 1 that’s listed at a fairly good price. One of the buttons ( track trig) doesn’t work, easy fix I guess but it got me wondering what sort of replacement parts are available if other things go wrong later on.

Few of the parts will be proprietary, like switches, pots etc. - even if you end up with something slightly different there will be something suitable - custom stuff like button caps, knobs, the case etc. will be in limited supply but Elektron seem to still have some kicking around for those in need - surely not for too much longer though. 3rd party screen replacements are possible. That said you shouldn’t be wearing through your buttons any time soon and any d shaft knob will work so I dunno, I wouldn’t worry too much about that stuff personally. It’s also not really that old yet, you’re long away from worrying about unreliable electronics imo.

I repaired 2 of them with cyanolite glue.

I’ve sent my OT in for repairs 2 times in the last couple years.
In the past couple days I’ve noticed the Amp/ARP button needs to be pressed multiple times to finally work.

Anyone got repair advice?
My soldering is decent, definitely not pro.
Wondering if I should attempt the repairs myself?
Is it a simple matter of cleaning?
Wonder if Elektron would do it on the cheap seeing they recently put a new board in on the last repair.
I really just don’t want to be without it again for weeks or more

I think the wait time would be the issue, just depends on how long you can wait to get it back. There have been a lot of posts lately about how long things took to return, they had junipersteels OTmkII for quite a while, some people not getting responses to emails…

conversely, there was another guy who bought the replacement button and his local tv repairman installed it for $7.

I saw that post.
And I can confirm the wait times.
They had my RYTM for 9 months, and when I got it back it didn’t even boot up, I had to send it back for another 2 months.
They didn’t have my OT for very long, but they insinuated they would do the repairs quickly because of my RYTM.

I’ll just send in a support ticket and see what they say.
Maybe ask a friend if he could do the repairs.

Do you know where that TV repair post is?

pro tip: I have better luck getting responses by backdooring on the end of my old request emails rather than submitting a new ticket… at least for buying/ordering parts

I did just that.
Used my recent repair correspondence.
I had read in another thread that there is a warranty on repairs maybe?
Hopefully that’s the case and they will quickly fix it up.
I’ve only had it back for a month and a half.

@bodymechanics I’ve gone back much further than the timeline of the thread in question and it’s not there, it may have been deemed no longer useful and hidden. that’s all I can figure because I’m positive that I posted a response and he responded to me saying that he found a tv repair shop to do the soldering for $7 or something to that effect.

I saw it yesterday, now I can’t find it either.
Weird

Anyway I feel better just replying to support directly.
Thanks tho

That’s a run of bad luck.
I had a diode fail a while back, attempted to repair myself, fucked it up. Contacted elektron, bought a new UI board from them, fitted it myself. Very easy, surprisingly cheap.

However, if they replaced the board for you, that work should be guaranteed.

Then again, sending your OT away for repairs is a total disruptor.

So maybe once you get hold of elektron support, negotiate a deal on another replacement board? (No soldering required)

Dunno, tricky situation. Good luck.

I’ll find out the plan of attack as soon as they get back to me.
Replacing the board doesn’t sound to tuff
