Reon Cistron [FM + Sampling Rhythm Machine]

This thing looks and sounds very interesting. Most of the info is in Japanese but from what I can tell it’s a rhythm machine with 3 parts- a FM engine, a sample playback engine, and an analog noise generator, these all goes through analog VCF and VCA, and a delay. Sampling and external audio processing (which also goes through the analog signal path), CV and a 16 step sequencer with automation recording. The FM engine can store 8 different “patches”, which can be “sound locked” to steps Elektron style. Sample playback is 4 voice polyphonic which is really cool. This kinda machine is right up my alley.

It looks very well made, retail in Japan is 88k yen which converts to about $800 USD. The demos sound really cool. The guy that did this demo said he’s an official tester and says that these will be approved by the FCC and coming to North America at the end of the summer.

Here’s some more links to demos and info:

I’m curious about the “Reon Fusion Port” on the back, apparently it’s some sort of proprietary sync technology. On the website it says this belongs to the “Fusion Series” so I’d assume there’s more boxes on the way and that they’d play with each other quite nicely.

Awesome sound! I’ll be keeping an eye out for this

Yeah, I think this looks pretty nice.

Reon made the drift boxes, and I think they were distributed by Korg- so that means they should be available outside Japan too

Interesting. And just when I thought I had my drum machine addiction under control.

Does anyone have a Cistron in hand yet? Looks like a cool counterpart to an Elektron machine or a DFAM.

Korg didnt do much of a distribution job on the drift boxes - only one or two of the more sedate models. But perhaps that is a good thing.

I have somehow ended up with one of the wilder Driftboxes, the model W - it is absolutely exquisitely made - the build quality is genuinely outstanding. It is also almost completely unusable other than as an out of control noise-box. Controlling everything through tiny little hyper sensitive joysticks is about as ridiculous as you would expect.

Really? I have a DFAM Genesis just finished and building a decent case for it now, in what way do you think it´s similar?

I am thinking of getting rid of the DFAM and my Rotas, and maybe try to find a REON Cistron instead; just find a place that sells them seem to be the issue…

I don’t even know what that is

Ok you mean the MOOG onw… haha… funny… I mean Kasser DFM Genesis! A typo there… Kasser Synths DAFM, Multitimbral FM Synthesizers With Vintage Yamaha Chips

Between that and the MAFD it’s easy to be confused…

Haha… oh no, another one! More naming creativity please!

Alright, a Reon Cistron actually bought by surfing through the local internetz marketz… And, i got a tip from Implant 4 where they recommended the used markets and followed up on the one they recommended. And there were two available, one in a expensive bundle, another just as is.
Now time will tell if it´s legit. I got e-mail confirmations quickly after the purchase so far it seems legit. Remains to be seen how the rest pans out.
Cheers1

But more info is forthcoming, promise!
