Tascam Model 12, Zoom live track, or Bluebox may do the trick. I don’t own any of them but looking myself atm.

Though @natehorn makes a great point. What are you planning on doing with the recorded tracks? I am looking at the above gear to multitrack and overdub with live instruments. Use them as a songwriting tool. Knowing I’ll have to use a PC eventually.

As a full time IT guy I relate with the OP. I only get a small window for my hobby. It may be more work but the last thing I want is a PC during the jamming/writing process.

Not saying it’s a truism, but the issue is real. In a time limited environment, some people want the immediacy of something with zero distractions. Switch on, play, produce.

That’s pretty much the way I see it. I just want to quickly record my ideas in a fun way (to me it’s fun but maybe for someone else it’s not and that’s totally fine).
It ends up in the computer anyways and I finish mixing the stems ITB. Sometimes I just make a quick mastering to listen on my home stereo

I guess, what i am looking for was the Overbridge feature to record the mix as well as the tracks.

Reading in the Overbridge manual:

7.2 AUDIO CAPTURE
The stand-alone versions have the possibility to perform basic audio recording of audio from the device.
Click AUDIO CAPTURE at the top of the program window to open the audio capture page. The audio
capture will generate a number of WAV-files (32 bit/48 kHz). The number of files depends on your CAPTURE settings.

I have a Sound Devices MixPre 10-II field recorder, which doubles as a very nice 10 in 4 out audio interface. Audio from from the PC can be freely routed to its input channels and recorded along with physical inputs in the other channels, and the overall output stereo mix can be recorded too. Channels can be freely routed how you like to the L/R, X1/X2, and headphone outputs. There is a Musician Plugin DLC option that can effectivly turn the device into a standalone portastudio, minus EQ control. You can even plug in USB MIDI controllers such as the Nanokontrol for a more typical hands on mixing experience.

It’s quite expensive of course as it’s primarily a location sound recorder. There is the MixPre 3 and 6 which are cheaper, they have the same features just with less I/O.
