Recording samples via usb into digitakt2

hi - got my digitakt today, looking forward to diving in…

just wondering if theres a way i can record samples into digitakt via the usb…

what i want to do is open my software instruments in ableton and play notes via my midi keyboard straight into the digitakt sampling page… cant seem to work it out.

seems a bit long winded doing it the over bridge method of bouncing the samples down and transfering them. also dont have midi cables set up as of now.

any help greatly appreciated.

I need to try it again, been a moment I did not try it but as long as you set up the USB midi for sound in the parameter, you should be able to record also from there.

One way of doing it is dropping Overbridge in, routing the 1/2 inputs to your Digitakt. That way you can send any track to the DT inputs.

Other way is using the Digitakt as your audio interface, that will make it available as an external input as well.

I’m trying to achieve the same thing as OP and sadly I still can’t get it to work. Could you provide a screenshot of the settings in Ableton?

Okay, I figured it out. For anyone else out there struggling with this:

  1. Make sure that the Overbridge Engine is running on your PC
  2. Put the Digitakt in Overbridge mode: System -> USB config -> Overbridge
  3. Press the samples button on the Digitakt and set the SRC to USB
  4. In Live, add a MIDI track and add the Digitakt plugin
  5. Open the Digitakt plugin and make sure that the Digitakt is selected at the top
  6. In the Digitakt plugin, click the routing button and set Main L and Main R for 1/2
  7. Add another MIDI track and add a synth like Vital
  8. Set the “Audio to” of the Vital MIDI track to 1-Digitakt (Sidechain 1/2)

Hope this helps!

Edit: If you want to monitor the VST’s audio output (e. g. Vital) in Ableton, check my post further down below for a working routing setup.

This works great, thanks! Only thing is I can’t figure out a way to monitor what’s being sampled. You can’t monitor usb inputs on the digi, and the audio track being sampled is going to the overbridge pulgin instead of the mains. For now I just duplicate the track with one going to the digi and one to main.

I only have fx routed to main with separate track outs, but I don’t see any way you’d be able to listen to the sidechain inputs via the plugin.

you can sample via usb without overbridge:

0 connect DT via usb
1 choose the DT as audio interface in your daw
2 on your DT go to settings -> system -> usb config -> choose usb audio/midi
3 then go to the sampler (recorder) and choose usb l/r as source
4 now you can set a threshold for recording or start manually and sample your softsynths.

easy!

Thanks but looking to get it totally seamless via overbridge. Pretty much only use DT2 that way and have no monitoring setup to use it as an interface. Works great now just wondering if there’s any way to monitor the track being sampled in the DAW.

Do you mean you want to view the 16 tracks on your digitakt inside the daw ?

So this is my setup. Got all fx and 16 tracks routed no prob. Last channel is where I drop samples to go into the DT2 via overbridge. Got input routing in the plugin set to Main L/R and have the sampling channel in ableton routed to those inputs. But when I go to the sampling page in the DT2 and play the sample, I can’t hear anything ableton. I’m still able to sample and assign to a track etc. just no monitoring.

Not sure if its even possible, but I’m just happy to have this feature now.

I also struggled with that. Try this:
