Recording MIDI sequence from Ableton (or any DAW) into a MIDI track on Octatrack?

Hi guys, been poking around for a solution to this but haven’t been able to quite figure it out though it seems like it should be possible.

Basically I’m trying to record MIDI out from Ableton into a MIDI pattern on my OT so that I can later (during a live show) send that MIDI out to a synth. I have my OT sync’d up fine (as far as I can tell) with an ERM Multiclock but haven’t figured out how to send MIDI to a MIDI track and record that live into the pattern there. I am receiving MIDI fine (it was triggering sample playback on Track 1 until I switched to a different MIDI channel) but don’t see a straightforward way how to record.

Of course i might be missing something glaringly obvious but I’ve been coming at this for a little bit now so any and all help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!
Greg

Section 15.3 of the manual (page 90) explains the process pretty well I think

EDIT: the previous section (15.2) has some important information you need to be aware of, especially the following:

If an audio track and a MIDI track share the same MIDI channel, the MIDI track will block the audio track from sending out data while the audio track will block the MIDI track from receiving data.

you might try to record midi from the daw whilst set to transmit on the auto channel of the ot - then just select the tracks to record into

Hold the record button(next to stop and play) and press play while holding it.
