Hello,
I am interested in possibly getting an octatrack to partially use as a midi sequencer for my other gear. I am just wondering: is it is possible to record melodic sequences using the trig keys in a similar way to the monomachine (i.e. each key is a different chromatic note and can record in real time)? As a former monomachine user and a long time user of the Electribes, I find this a preferred way to build melodic sequences.
If this is not possible, any thoughts about the octatrack as a midi sequencer would be very helpful!
thanks
yeah it can be used in chromatic mode to record in real time then edited after. it as a great sequencer on it
just to mention - the chromatic mode allows only +/- one octave from the original pitch.
Don’t know how that compares to monomachine but probs worth mentioning
Yes it can be played chromatically with the knobs and the LEDs indicate white and black keys.
Don’t expect to be as fluid and expressive as on a real keyboard. The buttons are just on/off, no velocity and no aftertouch.
Consider that the OT is a sampler without the capability to use multi-samples. Don’t expect the same sonic results as we get from a ROM-pler or a synth
IMO the strength of the OT is mangling audio samples, rather than beeing a melodic instrument.
Good to know although i assume you mean for the sample mode-are there more octaves in the midi sequencing mode?
Yeah, all 128 notes are available in midi mode.
Yes as @sezare56 says - big note range on the midi side.
It can also do chords up to 4 notes on midi, but it doesn’t capture them well when playing live. More of a dial-it-in programming thing
Same for me, mainly because of the wrong root note, even when the notes are correct.
