Hi everyone,
I’ve set up a template in Ableton to import all 12 channels + FX from the Syntakt, based on online tutorials.
The issue is that the effects of each track are sent to a separate, consolidated FX Channel, which in this case I want to avoid, as I want each track on Ableton to already have the particular flair it got from the FX applied to it.
The FX Routing (func+Fx) for every channel is disabled.
I had the thought of maybe activating FX routing for each channel on the second page of AMP of every track, but realized this shouldn’t make a difference.
Any ideas? Is there something obvious I’m missing here?
Many thanks in advance!
Doing what you hope for would require separate FX processors per Syntakt track, but it only has the one set. So, you can’t do what you hope.
hmm but it’s not really about extra processing, just about how the sound is being routed here. Even if I export one track at a time, isn’t there any way to consolidate that sound?
Not really. If you for instance have 5 tracks running through the fx track’s overdrive, that would sound different than hearing them one by one. You can definitely just record the master track by track, but it still would be slightly different. Also, you’d be stacking those reverbs and delays returns which probably also is not for the best.
I understand. Still, I’m not routing any track through the fx channel, so the effects of that channel - e.g. the overdrive - wouldn’t apply in this case.
The issue I’m finding with this is that the fx track recorded into ableton carries everything with. So if I work on the percussions group, I can’t really use it as it’s carrying over the individual effects applied to all tracks, including synths and so on.
Seems the way to approach it is to export tracks to Ableton by group, record the fx channel for that group, and do the same for the other channels.
Is this how you guys would approach it? Maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to it. So far it seems a little rigid and tedious to me.
I generally just end up using my own fx in Ableton when using overbridge. I do so much post (compression, eq, other fx) on the individual channels already that redoing the returns with a bit of Valhalla magic (or your preferred reverb/delay vendor) is only a small inconvenience.
Fair point. I’m overthinking this for just a simple delay and reverb Thanks bud
I usually use my own fx occasionally I solo a track and record that and leave the delay or a small bit of reverb on if I particularly like it. I find I loose something not using the Elektron effects sometimes, so it’s usually a bit of both, I tend to prefer the sound recorded from a line out than using overbridge via USB.
