Im recording stems as audio into ableton. I don’t use overbridge. So I have to fix some delay. How do you guys generally do this in ableton? I usually record something like or 24 bars. Then take a loop somewhere in the middle. I would like to avoid time stretching etc.
For me, creating External Instruments in Ableton and using that audio for playback and recording it into separate audio tracks had a huge positive influence on delay. It still feels like a counter-intuitive way of working for me, but it worked wonders. I just made a bunch of templates for my instruments, often bundled in a group for separate tracks, so the counter-intuitive approach doesn’t bother me anymore.
Ableton is my master clock, all other equipment slaves to it.
I’m using Behringer X18 as audio interface, only the Virus TI audio tracks via the Virus TI VST (audio over USB). MIDI in/out both via MIDI interface and USB directly to devices. I’m using Windows, as far as I know this limits me in selecting only one source for audio over USB at a time, unless there is a VST specifically created for it. Hence my TR-8, for example, is running through the X18 for audio, but is using MIDI over USB. I also use MIDI-OX to manage virtual MIDI ports, thus bypassing the MIDI port allocation limitations, this is for VSTs that help with MIDI mapping for automation/remembering settings for various synths.
