Recording and monitoring with Overbridge and Rolands

Hi folks,

after aimlessly jamming (vulgo noodling) for a few years, I’d like to take a more structured approach and start multitrack recording. I have a few Elektrons, Overhub, a couple of Roland Boutiques, TR8s, a Focusrite 18i20 (MK1), a MBP (2015) with 16 GB RAM and macOS Mojave, a couple of synths without audio over USB, Ableton Live 10 and a few VSTs and I’m wondering how to make all of these play together. My plan is to create a composite audio device with Overbridge, the Focusrite and Roland’s audio over USB. Some questions:

-do Rolands audio over USB implementation and Overbridge play together?

-OB/USB over audio as well as the audio interface introduce latency. Should I connect the main audio outs of my USB/Overbridge devices to the audio interface at the same time to allow for direct monitoring?

I’d be happy to hear some suggestions how others handle this.

Thanks,
Hans

Have you tried creating an aggregate audio device?

I’ve not used Overbridge but you should have no problem getting the Focusrite and the Rolands to be available simultaneously. Latency might be worse than an individual interface but they should keep in sync - see how bad it is if you monitor out through the Focusrite for example. I think it might be something you have to test and see if it’s acceptable.
