Hi,
I’m trying to get recorder trig sampling working with an OT Mk2 and a Roland TR09, following this video -
Everything works fine until 2:00 - on pressing Play
my TR09 absolutely does not start, and instead I seem to get a load of other sounds being triggered, even though I cleaned out the recording buffer beforehand.
One difference I notice between the Mk1 in the video and the Mk2. The Mk1 has a light by the MIDI
button - the guy in the video explicitly presses the MIDI
button to disable MIDI as a recording source. But my Mk2 doesn’t seem to have such a MIDI light - maybe I failed to disable MIDI and the strange trigs are coming from there ?
Alternatively - there’s nothing in the video about setting MIDI channels - everything seems to just magically work. Maybe because the two machines are Elektrons, but what if they are not ?
Any help to get recorder trig sampling between Octa Mk2 and TR09 gratefully received
1- Are you sequencing the TR09 from the OT, or on the TR09 itself. If the answer is both, you have conflicting midi data, and all you will get is a mess.
2- Have you set up the OT to send midi clock and transport ? it wont work other wise.
3- Have you set up a track recorder to listen to the TR09 ? eg:inputs AB
4- Have you placed a recorder trig of the desired length ? eg 16 (1 bar)
it sounds like you have midi notes in the OT sequencer going to the TR09, but you havent sent Clock and transport.
Hope that helps.
Pretty sure it’s 2) as I have 3) and 4) covered - for 1) I just want to sync the TR09 from the OT
There’s nothing in the video about setting OT MIDI clock and transport, which is weird as otherwise that series is pretty good
Any pointers on how to set MIDI clock and transport ?
Many thanks for your help
Well I hate to say it, but it is in the manual…
Main menu, settings, midi, sync, you will options for sending/recieving clock and transport there.
Be mindful to turn direct control off.
Yeah I know. The manual is virtually unreadable IMO though. Too dense. Videos make this stuff so much easier, at least to the n00b. So that was what I was hoping for when I asked
But many thanks for your help and I will try not to ask too many dumb questions in the future
No worries. Happy sampling! Im a big fan of the little TR09 myself, it sounds banging through the OT filter distortion and compressor.
Yeah I have a new Analog Heat I can’t wait to try with it also
