Record pro samples in octatrack

hallo.
i m strugling to record good level “pro” samples with OTMKii.
cant understand how to do it in proper way or what settings to mangle around.
Thing is, when i try to record my modular kick directly to OT, i see cliping levels in red, so i lower the input level, but when i play the sample in set, its level is way lower than my kicks from commercial sample pack.
How do you guys check “things” and what i must pay attention to be able record in OT my samples in the same audio level as stock samples?

Normalize.
And reduce the low end before recording.

Make sure your modular output is AC coupled, not DC coupled.

Get signal into OT and use AED to view waveform whilst recording, adjust input level such that waveform is peaking 2 pixels from top of screen.

Can you expand on that?

Why? What problem does it solve? Is that what sample pack makers do?

My intuition says “it cuts down the energy in the recording and makes it easier to handle”. But it seems the opposite of related advice I read. In the book Mixing With Your Mind the author Micheal Stavrou, a successful mix engineer, encourages the reader to record the “hottest flame of sound”. It’s a metaphor; I imagine it translates to recording a strong signal of the “fundamental” of the sound - usually the lowest components. He is describing mic’ing up amps and drums, mostly… so maybe it doesn’t apply to DI’d synths and turntables… but now I’m unsure.

You see clipping. Can you hear it ?
Red means -12db warning.
Red doesn’t mean clipping.

You can monitor your recordings playing them at the same time with flex.
