Record drums without step sequencer

Hey Elektronauts,

I’m a noob to the elektron world and just scooped up a Digitakt. Been watching vids, and checking the manual, as well as messing around with the unit. Maybe I’m missing something, but is there a way to record my drums live, without it using the step sequencer? Similar to MPC. Basically playing the drum patterns live to record.

Thanks in advance!

Just hit record and play (like when you were recording the top 40 with Mark Goodier on a Sunday evening on the old family hi fi), bash in your beats and et voilà

Interesting, I tried that, but it seems to miss a track or trig. I hit 8 twice, 7 once and 5. I skips 7 no matter how many times I tried. Like I said, I’m a noob with this thing.

Side note: Had to look up Mark Goodier haha

Haha showing my age…

Have you put it to longer than one page? FUNC+PAGE (press page till the desired amount is shown/LEDs are lit)

Can’t help on the missing trigs however I do believe that either the DT or DN has a bug where it will sometimes miss the first trig, which may be related to this.

Theres also likely a very obvious answer which I may missing, so give it a bit and I’m sure someone else will chime in

Hahaha could also be because I’m from NYC is why I don’t know him…

Awesome! Thanks for your help. Going to try these now.

Track 7 might be muted if you dont hear it after live recording - check your mute modes, they seem to mess up most new users.

This. Early in my ownership of the DT, I forgot I muted a track earlier in a jam, decided to change the sample… since I could hear it when I was hitting the pad, I was so confused as to why my live recordings weren’t working for that track. Oh, yeah - it’s muted.

Ahhhh… good call guys! Thanks for the input. It was driving me mad. It’s so easy to mute those buttons. It’s like day 2 for me of getting the hang of the workflow.
