Recommend Drum Module for Cirklon

Hi

Can any of u guys recommend a drum module for Edm Techno etc

I have a Cirklon so I don’t need one with a sequencer

So what do u guys recommend

Thanks

Most Drumcomputer come with sequencer, so there isn’t much.

Eurorack lxr module, sample drums, etc. come to mind.

Erica Synths LXR is decent. But you’ll be happier with the sound of a dedicated drum machine.

I would look at various multitimbral synths. Maybe mix-match a few.

Nord drum 2

The lxr desktop module is a source frustration for me personally.
The module on the other side seems to behave not that bad, im seriously thinking about that one.

I was looking at a JoMox Air Base but they seem hard to get and when u find one people want stupid money for them was also looking at the Roland R-8 with the cards

Im even tempted to go down the modular rabbit hole and build my self a nice small techno rig if that’s possible

Yea the module is ok. I’ve had one for about 10 months and I keep it because it’s small and is good to have when I want to do a modular only techno set. It’s definitely not my go to drum though. I don’t use my cirklon to trigger it.

What’s your go to Drums with the Cirklon?

A lot of my drum machines have internal sequencers. But I really do enjoy sequencing the pulsar 23 or DS-4M with the cirklon. I don’t have the vermona DRM but I suspect it pairs well with the cirklon.

Do you have the break-out-box or drum mux trigger module (or desktop box)? Sequencing drums is much tighter with CV triggers.

Vermona DRM Mk IV with trigger inputs (which now have velocity sensitivity) is a great option. Earlier versions do not have CV with velocity, only via MIDI

MIDI also fine but not tight tight like you want it

I don’t have a Cirklon, but I like working with my Division Department 01/IV with my Torso T-1 – very hands on, sounds great, only 4 channels though. I’d also like to try a Vermona DRM1 and Nord Drum 2 or 3p!

It will be kinda difficult to find that one killer drum machine that sounds exactly the way you expect your “EDM / techno” to sound like.

Something that can also trigger samples is useful for this problem.

I’ve had a lot of different drum machines (vintage and newer) that I just sequence from the Cirklon. so really you can use anything with midi. unless you really need it to be a rack unit? there seems to be love for the Roland R8M over on the Sequentix forum. I think they’re pretty cheap, but the cards can add up.

maybe try a RTYM mk1? they go for pretty cheap (especially here or at ModWiggler, not so much on Reverb). if you’re just going to sequence it externally, the form factor of the mk1 vs mk2 shouldn’t bother you much. in any case, it’ll be easier to edit than an AirBase; whether you do it with Cirklon track values or from the RYTM interface itself.

I was just about to suggest this. Cards are indeed pricey but for the price of a couple of them you can get the Waverex and put whatever you want on it (including the Roland card ROMs).

Note that the other R8s have pretty terrible MIDI timing/jitter when being externally sequenced but they sorted that on the R8M since I guess it would’ve been a pretty pointless product otherwise.

analog rytm mk 2. I use this and I don’t use the sequencer on board.

check out Blush response’s yt channel, lot’s of great stuff there.

The DS-4M just came on my radar. How are you liking it?

I use Cirklon to sequence a Nord Drum 2, Pulsar 23 and Division Department 01/IV which is flawless. The Nord Drum 2 benefits from extensive midi Implementation, which lets you sequence all cc’s via the Cirklon - great!
