Hi, I’m happy with my current setup of an electric guitar and a Digitakt sequencing a blofeld but can’t help but want a little something extra to the sound of the blofeld.
What pedals should I think about adding?

I would think a decent lush reverb. H9? Ventris? Mercury 7? Blackhole? Blue/Bigsky? So many options these days.

My favorite: a “best” reverb (I’d add Empress Reverb to above list) and ZOIA.
Oh, and I love my Polymoon, but it’s not for everyone nor everything.
Forgot to talk about the obvious Heat and the like (compression / warmth can really wake up a synth).
Strymon Deco makes drums shine, but it’s also interesting to give a stereo dimension to any sound.
A little extra what…? You might be happiest with a compressor or a saturation/colour box if you’re looking for punch or energy etc.
If you just feel it’s too dry then maybe it’s solved by a reverb or delay.
saturation sounds good. any recommendations?
This is pretty broad question, as there are many pedals out there. One that comes to mind would be something like the Hologram Microcosm. A very interesting pedal, and there is a lot going on, so I would suggest just watching some video’s on that one.
Another one would be the Chase Bliss Blooper. It is a fun pedal, the modifiers get some interesting things going on, and it can also add some noise/dust/degrading to your sound if you like that kind of thing.
And finally, maybe look at the Meris Ottobit Jr., Bit crushing, filter, and rhythmic fx with the sequencer.
For saturation, I would take the Strymon Deco. Sounds great, beefs things up, and can emulate old tape machines, and get phasey fx going if you want.
Analogue Heat, OTO Boum are the gold standard I guess but there are some pedals intended for guitar that will do that stuff - not always in stereo though. Eg the JHS Colour Box.
Tape saturation is another version of it and you get quite a few pedals that simulate that in some way - Strymon Deco is well known.
FMR RNLA compressor also adds some colour that can be nice. At the moment I’m recording through a UA Apollo and there are a few plugins in there that are getting constant use on individual synths that in the past I wouldn’t have thought to do - eg the 1176 compressor seems to just make everything sound better (as in punchier and more present), as do the API preamps and EQs.
Also… as I always do… I’ll recommend a Roland Aira Torcido fx unit if you can find one, it’s digital but a really excellent stereo distortion / tube warming unit (with the bonus that it can be completely reconfigured internally via software).
Get lost in this channel for a while.
Unlike a lot of pedal channels he puts synths through them too
Source Audio Aftershock gives you stereo distortion/overdrive/fuzz editable on an iPhone… you can be independent L/R, very interesting pedal. That into a Ventris would be a serious setup.
On the other end of the spectrum, Zoom MS-70 gives you a tons of fx that you can chain together and store in various configurations for cheap.
Beebo or Digit from Poly Effects will cover a lot.
Personal favourites
Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Waters
Dawner Prince Booner Delay
Drolo Fx Molecular-disruptor
CooperFx/Chase Bliss Generation Loss
Spectacular thread title to precipitate an endless list of whatever anyone likes for absolutely any purpose…!
I see most of the Strymon pedals have a LEFT OUT and a RIGHT OUT but I need a mono pedal.
Is there a way to sum both outputs into one without needing a mixer?
I want to be able to plug both my guitar and the Blofeld into the Digitakt at the same time ideally.
Like a lot of pedals, and synths, and other things with stereo outs, you should be able to just use one output for mono. I know on the Deco it is the left output for mono only. Check the manuals for the other ones.
Another vote for Strymon Deco. I use it to give a nice tape saturation to my Machinedrum. It sounds great!
Yes they are guitar pedals first and foremost so if you only plug one cable in to the L output it sums to mono.
Plug a second cable in to the other output jack and it breaks the normalled summing and gives you separate L/R.
Mono. In that case, a Moog MF Drive.
Yeah, mono gives you a lot more options.
I’m normally not one to be like “check for other threads”, but this one seems to pop up at least once a week, and I’m not sure if these kinds of threads end up being beneficial to the person originally posting.
The problem with effects pedals is that they are very, very subjective, and I personally find that there is less community-building aspects to them compared to synths. To explain my last point, most can’t share patches, they all function differently, personal use cases are vastly different, and they even react differently between varying source signals. But the thing I like least is that there tends to be more budget gatekeeping with them compared to synths, which is something I find really distasteful.
I apologize for the rant, but I am curious if there is a better method for handling these types of requests.
