Can you recommend a 104HP 6U or 7U modular case that doesn’t break the bank, it’s 100% trustworthy, and it’s moderately lightweight, and plays nice with modules such as the Make Noise Pressure Points (which I’ve heard is sensitive to some power units)?
TipTop Mantis fits the bill but I wonder if there are alternatives more briefcase-like that are less expensive than, for example, Intelijell’s.
I don’t have direct experience with them, but Damaru is a small manufacturer in Bristol whose cases are carried by Elevator Sound (they are now selling them out of the Barcelona shop, I believe). Everything I’ve heard about these has been positive. It was top of my list, but then I opted for a more modest ADDAC case, which I could take the subway to pick up. I fervently hope I don’t need to expand again, but if I do, I’ll definitely look at Damaru again.
I haven’t tried the case personally, but the Befaco one seems to fit the bill. I recently bought the power supply in it (Trolley Bus) and I genuinely don’t know what to do with all that power. Really nice to not have to play the -12v Tetris I had to do with the uZeus before.
The Befaco 7U looks great in terms of specs, the VESA mount, etc but the Modwiggler thread notes some possible power issues that folks have encountered. Perhaps some teething problems in the first batch released?
I’ve had a TipTop Audio Mantis for several years and it’s been rock solid. Never had any power issues. Great value for money.
I also have an Intellijel 7U performance case which I bought used. My only gripes are the non-keyed headers (not an issue with later versions) and really sharp edges on the lid (I plan to fix with some PVC U-seal edge protection). Neither are deal breakers and I plan on getting another with the case joiner plates.
