Raising or angling monitors

Hi all.

So, I’ve had to replace my old monitors which were failing. Now got a pair of Genelec 8340s.

They’re a bit too low sat on my desk though, so I want/need to raise them.

Any tips? …or should I go for an angling solution?

I have some IsoAcoustic stands, but the Genelecs are too heavy for them and they don’t fit.

Custom blocks of solid wood, with rubber feet added perhaps?

Thanks!

I bought wood blocks to raise mine. Mine are 8020s, but I wasn’t able to find a practical on-the-market solution to bring them to ear level.

It’s a bit different since yours are larger, but I have quite a bit of drop-off in sound when not placed just right and the 7040a sub was a must.

Hopefully you have an easy option for custom wood blocks (if you go that route). Manhattan (NYC) is a weird place to go wood shopping, so I bought “blanks” from Etsy not understanding that what I bought was untreated walnut blocks covered in wax, as they were made to be used with a lathe to make bowls.
It became a little project, sanding smooth and applying oil immediately so they wouldn’t crack, then several more layers + drying before I could use them.

I have an old Genelec sub, which might not be up-to-date but it certainly seems to be enough to cover the low-end. :+1:

For a long time I used a 4’ shelf from the local hardware store and a stack of books on each side.

Not exactly exciting looking, but did the job really well.

i have mounted my 8330 to the wall - it was a very good decision, it opened up the stereo quiete a bit aswell, as i could place them further apart.

Wall-mounting not an option for this room unfortunately.

How loud are your monitors?
For bedroom studio generic stands are more than enough as there is no such strong vibration.

And I wouldn’t recommend angling. Monitors usually aren’t intended to be placed in such way. You may run into phasing and comb filtering issues.

The 8340s are fairly big and heavy. I guess I’d have to see if when looking at a stand, it has a max. recommended speaker weight.

I use a pair of these, have done for years. Sturdy, easily adjusted and take up less space.

Sorry not sorry.

Three days it took me to summon up the energy.

You stuck with it for 3 days. Kin ell.

Well no.

I saw it on day one, thought “ha! That could be funny”, but then couldn’t be arsed for three days. Got a sudden burst of the old thread dickhead energy and here we are, successful derailment via bad picture cropping.

I mean, whats the point in internet forums if you cant derail threads with stupid pictures?
