I had never seen this performance. What and absolutely beautiful human being! I saw him at the Arcata Theatre in 1998 which was basically a small movie theatre with a stage. The positive vibes were powerful. We tried to pass him a huge joint of Humboldt’s finest but he refused
RIP
For me, it will be this classic of protest songs.
RIP
I grew up listening to Jimmy Cliff.
On a different note, I just introduced the love of my life to Club Paradise a couple weeks ago. I was too young to understand some things, so it was like watching something new.
So many hours listening at the skatepark, cruising, chilling with the boys, driving to the beach.
81? Crazy he could’ve been my dad.
I’m kinda heartless and have a selfish ‘better him than me’ type of attitude toward the death of strangers. But this one hit me in my feels zone.
I’m gonna bang the hell out of my EPRiddim tonight.
RIP to the Legend Jimmy Cliff.
This was another one of those “Noooooooo!” obituary moments for me. The Harder They Come in my Dad’s record collection was my first introduction to reggae when I was a kid. It remains hands down my favorite soundtrack ever. Just a lovely and iconic talent. Nooooooo!
Hero can’t dead till the last reel
RIP Jimmy
Mister Jimmy Cliff was my gateway into a lifetime of exploring reggae and dub music. I never tire of The Harder They Come (movie and soundtrack): It reminds me of how magical music can be, and how much it can make you feel.
Much respect and many thanks to you, Jimmy. Sleep well.
RIP. Beautiful voice
Funny side note that REALLY made me like Jimmy. He appeared on Space Ghost Coast to Coast once. Most of the people that went on that show ended up being somewhat favorites or at least more interesting to me afterward. ![]()
Thank you for existing- bc I was there too! Life changes - & like many - who I was then and who I expierenced this with well I hope are doing good but I’ll never know - except bc of you it’s the confirmation it wasn’t just a lovely vivid magical dream of seeing him live in that old small theater- thank you again.
Hey there welcome to the forum! Yes I was there from 96-01! My other favorite show there was Digital Underground which was the opposite: Shock G brought a cooler full of beer to pass out and people were handing him pipes which he gladly smoked and kept for himself!
