I’m about 2/3 into it and it’s an excellent tribute! Seeing and hearing what he meant to these people as a person first and foremost is really moving.

I just bought a Prophet Rev 2 Desktop in memory of Mr. Dave Smith. Well, I’m trying one as I’m torn between the Rev 2 and the P5.

A similar thought has crossed my mind as well in the past couple of weeks. I only have a P6 desktop but for quite a long time I’ve known I’ll end up with more Sequential/DSI synths eventually. If I were to buy something in memory of Dave Smith, the Prophet 5 would be an obvious choice. Rev 2 is of course a great instrument as well.

In the video Dave Smith actually teases something they have coming up in the next two or three months. His passing probably changes that timeline but it’ll be exciting to see what he was most recently working on.

Wow. I just heard the news a few minutes ago (haven’t been online much lately). It’s hard to even comprehend how much of a loss his passing is. When it comes to the intersection of engineering and artistry he’s in a league that has been populated by very, very few.
I’ve been a bit of a fanboy since the first time I played a pro1 back in the 90s. It was like a crumbling box leaking magic all over the place.
Of the myriad synths I own, two I’ll never part with were made by him (evolver and pro3) and there are others I’m always on the slow hunt for.
Seemed like a great guy by all accounts and I’m sure his influence will on music will live on and on.

Yeah, the raw Sound is so appealing. Maybe the word should be tribute instead of memory if I end up with the Rev 2.

A Rev 2 Desktop and a P5 keyboard is my current polysynth setup. I can’t see myself aver parting with either of them.

That would be ideal.

Wow, I had no idea he died. But what a legacy to the world he left. Musicians and music lovers. And lived to see his life work go full circle and the appreciation it engendered.

His DSI-era designs were awesome. When I look at the Evolver, Prophet 12, Pro 2, Tempest, I feel as if that may have been him at his most creative, experimental, and innovative. And that comes after the Prophet 5, Pro One, VS, and creating MIDI!
