Quneo - Octatrack - Template

Hey guys, I made a template for quneo to control the Octatrack.
I put a PDF in the zip file to describe what the buttons on the quneo are supposed to do.
Please let me know if you find something wrong.
Cheers.

Nice one musicmagus!

ItĀ“s funny to see how you came out with the same assignements than me for some of the controls  I guess intuition…

I will add here my templates too, so we can share and learn about other users templates…

Cheers!

Hi,

As promised here is my first Preset, the one for controlling slices and play like ā€œableton live scenesā€. There is also a template image inside to explain its functions, I hope is understandable and if not… please ask!

PS: Maybe we can use this post whenever we have new presets… I will be posting soon the one I have for controlling Scenes with the pads.
Enjoy!

Yes, That sounds like a plan.

Nice!
This was going to be my next template I work on, but you may have saved me a bunch of time.

edit:
noticed your link was showing up funny…

Thanks for noticing the link error, fixed now.
I“m Glad it saved you some time!!

PS: The not used areas are because I normally control a Nord Micro Modular externally with those controllers, so it made no sense to leave them there…

Hi,

I didn’t know Quneo and i’m wondering if you use a midi expander to connect to OT.

And apparently it’s possible with Quneo to play two slices on two differents tracks simultaneously…

It would be cool for me

Hi woodey, you are correct I“m using a DIY alternative to the MIDI expander I built for this task. The problem with the MIDI expander is that is exclusive for KMI instruments, so it doenst allow any other controllers, plus it lacks a Hub so you can“t use more than one device.

Here is a link to my project http://www.inspektorgadjet.com/cerebelusb/

At the momment I managed to play 8 different slices across 4 different tracks simultaneously but it“s even possible with the 8 tracks.

I will have information within this month for final date release and price.
Once it“s ready I will publish the information here in the forum so keep an eye on it!

Cheers!

I just noticed a little glitch with my quneo template. On Bank 4 of the horizontal sliders I had the values reversed. If you switch them the retrig slider location controls the RTIM and pressure controls the RTRG. Works quite well for manipulating the retrig feature.

Also thought I should mention that I programmed HOLD and REL to the xy location of the first 4 tracks/pads. This works good for controlling drum samples if you want to play with how long the sounds are holding out… If this is messing with your setup, you might want to remove those XY location settings from the quneo template.

Hey guys, apologies for the double post, but thought I should put this up on the pure data and the quneo threads…

slice player for the quneo controller using pure data.
This patch would be pretty easy to modify for another controller as well.

http://www.elektronauts.com/files/download/91

"In pure data MIDI Settings, Set Quneo to Device 1 in and out
Set Octatrack to Device 2 out

load Quneo preset ā€˜PD grid low to high’ into the quneo using the quneo editor

64 corners of the Quneo select and play the slice
slice 1-8 are on the lowest row
slice 9-16 are on the next row
etc

The up and down arrows on the bottom right of the quneo will select the track to play.
A green light will flash on the quneo to let you know which track is active

NOTE: this does not change the track selcted on the octatrack but it does change the channel that the note is being sent on.
No matter which track is selected on the octatrack, the notes will be recorded to the track selected by the quneo.

There is some funny behaviour when using the octatrack like this.
While you are in realtime record mode the sounds you hear are not necessarily the slices being recorded.
After you lay them down in the sequencer, they will play the correct slice though.

Not perfect, but I am managing to play more sounds on one track this way without having to go and p-lock everything.

Oh yeah, don’t forget you can hold down a trigger in rec mode and then hit the slice pad on the quneo to p-lock a slice to a trigger.

Good luck and have fun,
Musicmagus

P.S. Please feel free to modify this and share your results… I am by no means a Pure Data expert so there may be an easier way to do this."

Hi all,

I have Quneo since a year but had no time to explore it.
I have the Octatrack and analog 4 that took all my time.
I’m not sure how to use your template?
I also have Ableton. Do I have to use your template with Ableton?
Do I have to use my Iconnectmidi?
How do I make Quneo talk to the Octatrack?

Sorry! Maybe Its obvious for you all…

Hi Bob, I don’t use ableton, but here is how I set it up (sometimes).
The Quneo is plugged into laptop with the usb cable.
A midi track in the DAW (reaper) gets set up to receive midi from the quneo.
That same track in the DAW gets set up to send midi to the Octatrack or A4… you must have some sort of midi box to hook up the regular midi cables to your Elektron boxes.

Check out some youtube videos about your specific software if you get confused.

The default quneo templates don’t do much for the octatrack as I recall, I have replaced them all now with templates geared to the octatrack or controlling software. They do have some ableton templates in the stock presets though.

The quneo is an amazing controller for Octatrack, I hope to put out some more templates soon. Don’t be afraid to dive into that quneo editor and make your own presets too!

Good Luck

Thanks so much for this!

I got everything set up (loving your USB hub, btw—I also suggested to Synth City in Chicago that they see about stocking them, as it’s more flexible and more affordable than the Kenton version).

Am I correct in noting that you can select slices but you can’t play them, like you might play them on the trig keys? Or should I be able to hit a corner and hear the corresponding slice play, like a drum pad?

Hey I meant to reply to you above but I didn’t CC you like I thought.
So yeah: is this preset meant to trigger the slices as well as select them?

Hi and sorry for my delay, somehow I dont get notifications and havent been around here in a while.

Yes you are correct, the template ā€œselectsā€ the slice and is triggered by the sequencer… a bit like ableton whic allows you to start them in sync with the project. Is not ideal, but it kind of works and trully expands the performance cpacity of the OT.

Hope it helps

any chance you could upload that zip once more ?
l’d love to see your map

many thanks

They are still there.
The Files section just recently got added back to the new forum so I’m assuming the old links are dead?
Anywho, I think these are the links you are looking for.?.?.?
