Question for Boss RV-500 users

So I have a very specific question about the routing in the Boss RV-500 that I wasn’t able to glean from reading the manual. If one is in Simul (A+B) mode with the Connection page set to Parallel and the Output mode to Mix, are the separate dry signals going into inputs A and B mixed also so that each one is centered in outputs A and B? If so is there anyway to pan the dry signals between the two outputs? Thanks in advance.

I picked one of these up just last week.

I’ve not had the time to delve into this side of things (Xmas etc), however you seem to be looking at doing what I want to do, so I’ll be keeping an eye on this.

Let me know what you find with yours… obviously if you can run two mono synths into it and have them mixed with different fx in stereo, that would make it very useful for a lot of people.

Yeah it would double the value in my mind.

If it doesn’t, I’m likely going to use it as a send on my digital mixer, so will update accordingly.

Yes! Your answer is yes.

I’ve been running my OB6 through the BOSS 500 series pedals but I am thinking of switching things around so I can use more lush verbs on more channels. Having said that, it is nice to run a separate reverb for the left and right channels as explained in this video…

The only downside to this pedal - 10 seconds of verb only.

Excellent. Thanks for this.

And what a downside it is…

I concur, spacelordmother (nice name!). My inner nerd wipes a tear away with a freshly sharpened pencil whilst muttering words of despair and grief. The other part of me however feels jubilant and when I play with this pedal I can’t help but feel elated. I smile for miles wide; that can only be good thing.

That was an excellent video… however in his examples he is a routing one input (A/mono I’m sure) into parallel reverbs going out independent outs. That is nifty for two amps, separate fx chains etc… but can it do two separate ins to their own reverbs and submix them so the two dry inputs (different synths) are centered (pannable?) and the fx are combined in stereo? I guess that is my question.

One thing realized for sure from the demos is that the space echo mode in this thing alone makes me want it… two instances of that with cc control would be craziness.

You know what …
I’ve just made a nice cuppa and I’m about to switch on my gear. I’ll take a look for ya!

I’ve always ran mine so I have two reverbs. Beautiful.

Let me make sure of the question you are asking…

Can the RV500 run two separate mono inputs through the stereo out using the same or two verbs?

Yes, but with the original signals combined coming out both outs.

Sorry for taking so long!

Ok, bare with me, I’m doing my best.

Here’s what I tested;

  • I ran mono in and can get stereo out with two effects in series or parallel.

  • If I input two separate sources they come out of each left/right output respectively.

  • The sound sources can get mixed but only the wet signal is mixed.

Are these the answers you are looking for?

I hope I got your question right and I really hope that helps.

Yes! Definitely answers the question. Bummer that it can’t be used in the application I was thinking, but many thanks for figuring that out

I totally agree. It seems strange that the guy who was behind the SE-70/SE-50 effect boxes hasn’t once again made that option available. Maybe because it a dedicated box for a dedicated effect as opposed to a multi-effect box…?

Going back to the RE-201 Space Echo. I actually have the RE-20 pedal and another emulation on the box released after the SE-70 - the VF-1. Out of all three and for the application I use it for the VF-1 is, I could say, much better. That said, the feedback on the RE-20 sounds the best. The reverb on the RV500 sounds the best though… guess nothing beats the real thing though!

So glad I could help.
I actually had a lot of fun doing it. I ran a sequence on the OB6 and played around with the routing options. When I checked back an hour had past. It was inspirational and made me want to make an ambient track going through all three BOSS 500 boxes.

Nice.
I was looking into the Source Audio Ventris… I think with some clever routing it might do what I want. No Space Echo tho.

Nice. Thanks y’all for this old thread I’m now necrobumping. I was trying to find details about what you were referring to, and it is explained in this section of the SE-50 manual. This handful of algorithms are designed for the purpose you describe.
