or would that be a not so feasible request, I’m pondering making the request out of needing finer sequencer resolution from the Model Series and also the digitakt?
You’re welcome to try it via feature-request@elektron.se. I highly doubt it will be implemented tho. But even 128 steps would be cool!
I don’t know anything about developing, I don’t want to inundate them with request that aren’t feasible as I catch myself sometimes thinking hey why don’t they just do this or that lol, but only extending the length could possibly alleviate two issues with one solution
I’m guessing they consider pattern chaining the solution to wanting more steps. After all, imagine changing step 250 and having to wait all that time to hear it in context with the rest of the steps.
I think the issue is how to do it cleanly:
It would certainly be a UI challenge (how to display what page you were on in a clear, intuitive way)
It would create editing issues (if you want to change something in the last 16 steps of a 256-step pattern that’s running with a clock speed of 1/8x, you’ll have to listen through 128 bars of playback)
If might create memory challenges, where sorting out the extra storage you’d need by changing the size of the memory each pattern uses by a factor of 16 turns out to be a lot more work than you’d think.
64 steps including individual grid scale per track is THE basic sequencer dna…
and remains the basic sequencer dna…i’m afraid…
try to play a pattern in quarter resolution slomo…to get that overall length within one sequence…even resulting in lower grid resolution still can do a lot of sonic action…
and ur always welcome to chain up four patterns to get there…
