Push 3 Users Thread

First off it doesn’t matter what you see on yt or ig. Thats just consumerism fuel at its finest. You can probably do everything you want with a push and a laptop. I sold a lot of gear because of the new push and regret nothing.

It really just matters how much you like the synths in abelton because if you like those you are good to go. Drum wise it makes way more sense to sequence itb.

If you are trying to just use push 3 standalone all the time you may run into weaknesses there. I have a laptop on a stand because I like to add groove pool to the drums, use m4L sequencers. Etc. That combo is untouchable. Also I use the Sampler at least once a track so I can’t do just standalone. But as for needing other gear, I still have some hardware but unique stuff. No more octatrack, rytm. Etc. Its just not really needed anymore for me. If I performed live that would probably be a different story.

Sampler not working in Stanadalone?
Srill trying to figure out what does and doesn’t work
Thanks

No, thank you, it was very helpful. I’m finding a better workflow for getting it going. I think I was also just dealing with too much last night. It’s not perfect, but it’s working to a good enough extent. I appreciate your help.

Sampler does not work with Push. Only Simpler. Which is a shame, imo.

Sampler works, but it doesn’t allow for swapping in/out samples. It’s basically a player on Push.

For working with Samples on Push Standalone, Simpler is the tool to use for pretty much everything right now.

One more thing to know is that if you’re having trouble with a Sampler device not working correctly before transferring to Push, you can also right click on Sampler, then convert it to Simpler.

Right this is all true, it just is hassle to not be able to quickly audition samples in Sampler without using the DAW. Makes it a hassle to use in Standalone mode. So I just decided for me the DAW + Push combo is better. May not be the case for others.

No worries, not arguing, I promise.

It’s just good for others to know what’s not working vs what is vs any user’s personal workflow.

But just a question, why are you using Sampler over Simpler? I’m aware of what’s available in each, but just curious how you’re using it.

I make all my pad and many chord sounds in Sampler because I can modulate the sample start point and it is much more detailed on how the looping can be. It allows me to make pads out of anything, and lately for me that has been field recorded sounds on my little Zoom hand held.

It’s a pretty insane sound design tool, or sound bank when using the chain locator as a sample selector, in addition to being a useful multi sample player.

I’m hoping this gets included at some point but Sampler development has lagged behind Simpler for a long time already.

It would be awesome if they just combined the 2 into one solution. For me these are top tier samplers. I sold almost all of my hardware samplers because I am always wanting the functionality from those 2.

Exactly!!

‘Saimpler’ would get my vote for a name.

Thanks.
So a multisampled instrument in Sampler can be transferred to Push Standalone and used there?
Sorry for noob Qs. I don’t have a Push but thinking about it

No worries, we’re all pretty much doing the same thing. Some things are more obvious, but the rest we’re finding as we go.

I haven’t created a multi sample Sampler instrument to transfer yet, but so far the factory Sampler content is available and playable on Push 3 Standalone

Gotcha. Thanks

Yes

This is actually really good advice.

I continued working with my old setup(s) but every time I bring in Push 3 to one
the redundancy of some pieces scream in my face (e.g. 1010Blue-+Blackbox, Force, MPC, etc.)

Gave me some headaches and I imagined selling stuff that I love(d) before Push 3 moved in.

Will follow that advice.

Standalone or controller?

Absolutely, but I’m still working on my game plan to give all my precious Digi-boxes a solid role going forward. I realize that I could replace each of them (DT, DN, and ST) with a comparable Ableton device but I don’t want to! Yet.

My crisis will be resolved if I can work out how to keep most of my sequencing inside of the Elektron paradigm and lean on the Push as mixer and effects chain, in addition to a very nice midi controller.

I’m working towards a live set. I paid for that Dataline video and it definitely gave me some second thoughts about sticking with the Elektron sequencers. It was fun watching him zoom around and launch scenes in an improvisational way to manage his whole live set. I’m hoping I can find a way to easily send pattern and program changes from Ableton clips and thus have a kind of visual scene map of each song, while keeping the sequence data stored on the Digi-boxes.

You should be good since Dataline switched to the Push3 now.
