Unfortunately only for Suite it seems. And suite feels grossly overkill for me since I only would buy Ableton because it’s a requirement to unlock more tracks and scenes for Standalone use
…
I’m not arguing about Push because I only have the controller version, but if you get the Suite version you’ll find synths and effects that alone are worth the price, take a look at Roar for example and imagine any source processed by this effect…
A few more questions to you standalone users.

Do I understand it correctly that Projects in Ableton terminology is only a folder where Sets are simply stored?
And are Sets seen as “individual Songs” or is a Set more like “a full album of songs” that you can play through live? If it is the first one, can you change Sets with program changes from external gear? -
Can clips and scenes be triggered/changed using program changes from external gear?

How good is the Push 3 Standalone as a midi slave regarding sync reliability etc?
My main goal would still be to use my Octatrack as the master, and control some things on the Push 3 from the Octatrack…
I’m only going to answer the first part as I don’t use program changes and I’m about to crash for sleep, but…
(You understand correctly) Projects are the parent folder to a Live Set (or sets).
Live Sets are not limited to a single song unless you choose to keep it that way. I think most producers, writers and artists keep a set to one song, BUT, performers will often have multiple songs in a set that can be triggered via clips and/or scenes. *It’s a flexible host.
I don’t perform Live, but there are lots of setup videos. I think an Elektronaut here did share their workflow a year ago, or more? Hopefully someone remembers (and hopefully I’m not making it up).
To answer your question on class compliant audio - it’s amazing.
I have a focusrite 1820i (nothing special at all) - I was using ADAT for P3SA, but I switched to usb audio recently.
No difference in sound quality. Very reliable (no drop offs). And when I’m using battery power, I only have one cable coming out of the push (the usb cable)!
I’m sending the prophet 10 to the push via the 1820i (via usb), and I’m outputting the push master to the 1820i (and I listen to it either with headphones or monitors, both of which are plugged into the 1820i).
There are only 2 minor annoyances:
-
I have to set up audio at the start of every jam session (I.e. audio > input = 1820i, output = 1820i).
-
Once I’ve set up audio, I need to go to the P3SA master track, hit the mixer button twice, then deselect/reselect outputs 1&2 - otherwise no audio comes out).
100% - it’s pointless getting the P3SA if you don’t have Live Suite.
Great , sounds promising !
And those annoyances sounds like bugs that surely will be ironed out ?
Sorry if this has already been answered but I only find adjacent answers in the thread and not exactly what I am looking for.
I have setup a drum rack on the computer and added a few return tracks inside the drum rack to act as sends for the individual channels. Is there a way to access the return tracks themselves in standalone mode.
The goal is to be able to change the parameters on the effect itself to change the effect in real time while playing.
Don’t you just push the button above the screen to expand the drum rack?
I will look again to make sure but I did not see the return tracks there. Maybe I got lost since there is very many sounds though.
You’d think so, but in my experience, if you expand a drum rack in mixer view, it doesn’t let you apply send amounts for the individual components of the drum rack (I.e. there’s no send amount dial above any of the expanded drum rack components (the pads, I.e. “snare”) - there’s only a send amount dial above the group (the drum rack)).
I’m pretty sure you can change the send amount per drum channel on Push as well.
I made a drum rack (in Live) with sends that are routed to the main return channels.
Anyone willing the confirm that you can hold chords/notes over clip/scene changes in Standalone mode?
Meaning if you have a synth track and hold a chord/note using a midi controller. Will the chord keep playing when the clip/scene changes, or does it cut out (unwanted note off)?
This is a ridiculous limitation of the MPC 3 firmware when changing sequences, and one of the reasons I want to switch to Push 3 Standalone.
So just want to confirm that the Push 3 doesn’t have this limitation…
I don’t think the chord cuts out but I’ll confirm in a few hours
Ah yes, but this is because you explicitly set up the drum rack’s sends (specifying the set’s return tracks) in Live desktop then ported the rack over to standalone right?
Truly appreciated ![]()
Correct
Just tried with launchpad.
The notes aren’t cut when changing scene or clip
Hallelujah! Finally I can play live keys again with my sequences (clips/scenes in Ableton speak). Push 3 SA here I come ![]()
