Push 3 Users Thread

Since I established that the screen can be controlled by other developers just like the Push 2’s can, it will be possible for someone to write a utility that can turn the screen brightness down and periodically send different images to the screen when the device is connected to a computer but Live isnt running. But this still isnt the same as the screen being completely off.

I also use mine (standalone version) with the included USB-C cable from Ableton Push exclusivley with a PD powerbank with 65W power delivery over USB C. No power supply connected.

The max output of the USB-C port of the powerbank is 20V=3,25A, which is around what Ableton recommends here https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/8499344309404-Push-3-Battery-Tips-and-Troubleshooting:

“Push 3 can be powered using a USB power bank. Use a PowerDelivery(PD)-capable power bank that can supply 20V/3A.”

If you look up what is printed on the included Ableton Push 3 power supply (standalone) then you can see these exact numers: Output=20.0V 3.25A 65.0W.

I would not go below that to have a stable power delivery in standalone.

This is a cable I bought last weekend:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08J41QTNN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Reading the spec, is there any reason why that cable wouldn’t bus power Push 3 over USB c? I can’t spot anything obvious but thought I’d ask as I’m happy to try another cable if needs be.

  1. Press the jog wheel knob to enter selection mode when in clip view. Each note you scroll over becomes selected

  2. Use the stop clip button ( or lock in stop clip mode ) and you can stop clips by selecting them

  3. Auto naming is amazing! After you’ve saved a set you can go to the set menu, right push the jog and rename.

Incredible. Thanks for doing this. How come the higher sample rates have lower latency? I don’t know that much about sample rates and buffers, but I would expect the opposite to happen.

How many hours can you get out of that battery with Push 3?

Also how long does it take to charge the battery up?

Looks like a great solution.

The sample rate is the number of samples processed for every second of audio. This means that the higher you set the sample rate, the less time it’ll take the Push to process a full buffer of a particular size.

The downside is that processing samples at a higher rate is obviously more resource intense, which is why you’d be more likely to get dropouts, crackles, etc. at a higher sample rate.

I use my MacBook Pro charger for my laptop, my phone, my xbox controller and now the push 3.
just one cable! finally the future is here!

regarding the machine, it’s all good hardware wise but as others have reported the software is a big buggy.
my major issue is that sometimes for me note editing doesn’t work at all.
with the clip running I press the jog wheel, edit mode is entered but no note is highlighted, and scrolling the jog wheel does nothing

Reading this makes me insanely jealous :joy:

Which macbook pro charger? The large 140 watt one? If so, that will be amazing.

87w

it outputs:
20.2v at 4.3A (USB-PD)
9v at 3A (USB-PD)
5.2v at 2.4A

unfortunately it doesn’t do 12v so I can’t use it for my DN, ST and AR…

The powebank capacity on paper is 25000 mAh, with a power draw of 3A this should give 8h19mins on paper. I am still testing, but this solution gives me roughly 4h+ of powerbank usage in a real world scenario.

Tested with the demo project that came with the Push 3 onboarding tutorial on the device.
I had all clips (9ish) always running with tons of fx etc. and put some automations on top.
This was also with 100% display light & 100% led brightness.

Your mileage may vary with lighter load. I wanted to have something that gives plenty of battery life even under heavy load.

The model I am using is the INIU BI-B63 powerbank. This powerbank can be charged with up to 45W via USB PD (if your charger can deliver 45W or more).
A full charge via USB PD takes about 2:30h

Thus, charging via USB PD is quite fast.

This powerbank is inexpensive and very reliable, plus you can always see how much juice you have left by the capacity indicator.

4h of powerbank usage and another 2h when using Push’s battery= 6h :battery: without a powersupply

I can use the 140 one you think?

yes you should be good
the beauty of usb pd is that the ports talk to each other and only request what’s necessary

Awesome thats what I figured. This is perfect since my macbook charger is next to a living chair and I can just swap out cables and work on Push instead. Can’t wait

Thanks m8.

I still wish that Selectpad do what it should do, select notes clips etc.

Helpful! And this explains why my Birdcord 12V won’t work with the Syntakt. They don’t seem to support 12V.

This works for me with Syntakt

Today on planet geek I figured out why the first test version of DrivenByMoss that attempts to work with a Push 3 was not able to send stuff to the screen successfully. I overachieved by getting this far so now its up to the excellent developer of that system to make it happen properly and share it with users. And there will be more work required to make use of additional buttons on the 3, make the pads work in MPE mode when required, etc.

I meant why the birdcord wouldn’t work with my MacBook power brick, since the power brick doesn’t support 12V. The birdcord itself works just fine with a PD powerbank.
