Thanks, this is what I would expect to happen.
but @VibKo has had a different outcome. Which version of Push was that @VibKo ?

im looking at getting some mpe/expression into ableton, if im not very good at the keyboard or musical theory, would any of you recommend a push 3 over the other standard mpe controller/keybeds on the market? ive heard theyre quite unforgiving if youre not a good pianos/key player
I like working in the box on ableton so I wouldn’t be doing much else with it, maybe recording automation in and mixing levels
If traditional keyboard layout does your head in, and you want assistance by being given a playing surface that can be setup to only include the notes that are part of your chosen scale and key, then yes the Push 3 absolutely wins by a mile in this respect, compared to other MPE controllers.
There are loads of other aspects which vary a lot between all the different MPE controllers too, to do with feel of what its like to play as much as anything else, and all sorts of other details. I dont propose to try to get into this gargantuan topic at this time, and all the words in the world arent that useful compared to actually getting to touch and play the different MPE controllers that exist for yourself.
Hey Push 3 users…
Trying to send clock to my Octatrack from the midi out of the P3S. It’s not happening.
I’m using a midi adaptor that came with my Novation gear. It’s not seeming to work. But I see Ableton sell an adapter. Is theirs a particular kind? Do these things come in different sorts?
Cheers
I’ve not used the other MPE controllers and I’m absolutely sh*t at playing keys, so take this with a grain of salt. Push 3 Controller to me is the most obvious choice if you plan on sticking with Ableton. Scale mode means you’ll never play a sour note, and the pads feel incredible. You can also turn off the pad-position-to-pitch and MPE settings while you’re learning to use it so your music doesn’t sound like it was played by a kindergartener.
There is Midi Type A, and Midi Type B. They are basically wired backwards from each other. Push 3 needs a Type A adapter, and (according to a google search) Novation typically uses Type B adapters, which means your Novation adapter isn’t compatible with your Push.
Cheers.
Typical!
Just scored a Push 3 SA for £1150 on Marketplace. It looks like new + I’m buzzing!
Congrats! That’s an incredible deal.
Yes.
There are settings to tweak how the pads respond to your playing - for example you can set it to where the note is in tune even if you don’t hit the pad perfectly in the center with your finger, then later change the setting to be more sensitive to your finger location when you feel like trying a bit more expression with finger movement. You can choose between a variety of scales.
Sorry for late answer. I probably remember wrong then. I was pretty sure I had to do the update again when I did factory reset. It was the first batch of Push 3
Maybe someone can help to verify if this is a bug:
When playing the pads extra softly, the pad lits up and the sound is super quiet. I experienced this behavior with different threshold settings.
Does anybody had a similiar behavior?
Light touches are supposed to generate low velocity commands by default. If you want to change that there are three other pad parameters to change besides the threshold (threshold only determines pad firing). See Ableton Push 3 Manual | Ableton
True!
I got the threshold to the lowest possible value and the drive value at max. I assume that the softest touch possible should trigger a high velocity value, but i am still able to play even softer and the sound is extremly quiet!
If you’re looking for full-velocity pads, just press the Accent button on the Push and you’re done!
This is a good point. But really would like to know if somebody is able to recreate this behavior, because i want to know if my device is working probably!
My understanding is that at max Drive you’ll get velocities at the extremes (both soft and hard). That is, either low velocities (light to medium touches) or very high velocities (medium to hard touches).
Is it possible to have both master and cue sent to the headphones?
I can only select the cue/solo button on the master/main channel when i send cue to 1/2 and master to 3/4…
Isn’t it possible to have it like on a normal DJ Mixer?
I wanna hear what I’m sending to the master (thus the audience) but additionally pre cue tracks on my headphones as well without the audience hearing it.
Do I really need to send 1/2 and 3/4 to a separate mixer only to be able to blend cue and master signal in my headphones?
Am I missing something?
edit:
found a workaround on the ableton forum.
create an extra audio track with the input: main with monitoring to IN.
then send its output to the cue…
is it only possible via this workaround?
kinda lame, but i guess if it works it works…
Flash back to last fall.
Four months later…
So what ever happened to that other tracking number? I always figured something got mixed up at Ableton’s US fulfillment center and the actual package never got dispatched. That is, until now, nearly five months after disappearing…
…it showed up on my doorstep.
As fun as it might be to have two Push 3 units, I decided I should do the honorable thing and let Ableton know, so I opened a sales support ticket.
As it turned out, I didn’t need to let them know as they had already gotten the delivery confirmation, and within a few days reopened my original ticket from the fall with a helpfully attached prepaid shipping label. At least my new ticket got a response a day later thanking me for being proactive.
Anyway, I am now back to a single Push in the house.
That is bananas. I remember reading your original posts and feeling bad for you.
Glad it… worked…out? I think it did…?
