Right? I’m compulsively checking my inbox every 5min.

Just a warning… 11 will be difficult to go back to.

From the Ableton Live 12 FAQs:

“From November 14th until November 30th only, you can save 20% on Push Standalone.”

I would be happy to have that problem.

I wouldnt be checking every 5 minutes, they are allowing people into the public beta in batches and we dont know how long it will take to let us in. I dont know if I will be waiting hours or days, or even longer, but I know I’ll drive myself crazy if I check too often. And I dont expect to get in today, so hours is probably wishful thinking really.

Due to the way Ableton do things, it isnt clear if people using the phrase ‘private beta’ were granted special earlier access before today - thats what I would normally assume but I cannot fully do so in this case because this public beta phase isnt completely open to the entire public in one go either. But normally when people say private beta they do mean they got earlier access.

You’re right, probably better to forget about it for now, as I am trying to finish a tune in 11. 12 would get me completely off track. (*checks email)

If I turn off my moaning mode I’m pretty excited about most of the new features in 12. I like microtonal stuff so its nice to see the tuning stuff elevated to 1st class citizen. Its amusing that they have finally added a MIDI CC device. Im pretty excited about the generators and transformers, especially when max for live wizards harness the ability to add their own generators etc. I’ve not formed a view of the new instrument devices yet as I havent sat through detailed enough demos of them.

I had not seen this (stupid work). Worth the price of admission alone for me. I have struggled with CC control from Live for decades.

You’ve already said too much! :female_detective:

Not sure if the new CC Control device is better than the cc8 m4l device yet… seems it doesn’t have a learn function?

So what’s the deal for those who bought a Push 3 back in July - they now also need to pay for Live 12? I’m assuming that Live 11 won’t receive further updates once 12 is out so that sounds like the early adopters of Push 3 are basically stuck with “beta quality” software unless Ableton will somehow keep 11 and 12 updated in parallel for some time to honor these users, or give them all a free upgrade to Live 12. Sucks to be a beta tester of software.

Time will tell, I guess. I am eager to at least try it.

I would really not rather rely on third-party m4L devices that may no longer work in the future because the creator has no interest in updating them, etc.

Its never had value built in on that front like people are used to with most other hardware, eg Push 3 standalone purchasers didnt get full Live 11 for free back then either, they were just offered those versions at a discount if they bought at the same time as the Push.

This is just kind of how it is with software. They could try messaging customer service to see if they’ll throw them a bone but keep in my Ableton 11 has been out for almost 3 years now and ableton always does upgrade discounts and a further upgrade discount window every time they release a new version. And I bet very few people who bought a Push 3 didn’t already use ableton.

But yeah, they’d probably have to pay for an update license. I know they are pretty lenient if someone bought the license in the past one or maybe two months but if it’s been nearly 6 months?

I agree, it was really a weird omission. Glad they finally added it. Hopefully it’ll be good.

Doesn’t that premise change with Push 3 Standalone though? Unlike the old versions, the Push 3 Standalone is, literally, standalone hardware and comes with firmware (that we call something like Live 11).

Presumably this answers my question too: they probably have no choice but to keep that branch reasonably updated and improved, and maybe as a last push (pun unintended) offer those stuck with Push 3 and Live 11 an extra generous upgrade offer down the line.

We’re in a wait and see what happens next phase…

On Push 3, the internal software differentiates between Intro, Standard and Suite likely due to which instruments/effects will be available on Push 3.

Otherwise Push 3 does have its own software release stream.

I’m sure official info will come soon enough about how L12 will play out with Push 3. ***Just a guess, but I think their focus is on L12 at the moment.
