Push 3 Users Thread

Great work! I was looking at m4l tutorials yesterday and wishing Id started years ago

I don’t see anywhere in the chain to change the note on the push. I understand how to do it on Ableton. Maybe I’ll just make it in there and send it to my push. Either I’m not seeing it or there is a bug where you simply can’t change the note after you add an external instrument on a cell.

has anyone figured out if it’s possible to change track order in standalone?

I’ve also experienced the pitch slider issue (flickering, not moving, getting stuck on maximum) which is intermittent. I raised a ticket as it’s important to find out if this is hardware or software. Suggest everyone else experiencing this raises a ticket as well so it gets properly investigated.

Yes, it would be good if you could do this on push without having to go back to the computer. At the moment I’ll be doing this as a process after initial standalone setup and idea creation but maybe I can create some template instruments set up with common mappings (filter and envelope controls, level and fx send for instance) and save them in the favourites.

According to the Ableton forum, it is currently not possible.

Opening a blank Drum Rack and adding samples… each time you select a pad to add a new sample it takes you back to the default start page.
Can this be changed so it stays in the current folder?

(Workaround I found was to duplicate a sample that’s in the folder you want, then swap/browse it and it takes you to the same folder… still a bit clunky though.)

My headphone out is quite noisy as well and also isn’t dependent on the volume. Noise starts as soon as the machine boots regardless of whether or not the power supply is connected (but it gets worse when it is), or whether any devices (midi/input) are connected, or whatever sampling rate and buffer I use, or whether Wifi is enabled or not.
It’s possible that it’s only really noticeable with very sensitive and/or low impedance headphones (I use the Austrian Audio Hi-X60, which are 25 ohms).

Yeah exactly that. I suspect the same. Have been using my in ear monitoring which are 36 Ohm. My studio headphones as well. Have yet to check it with those. Also have a good ol’ pair of Beyers with high impedance so will check with those as well.

Otherwise maybe time to switch cans but I’m hoping this can be fixed. I’ve never had this issue with other gear. And yeah, hate to say this but this should not be an issue on a 2k piece of kit. But maybe it’s just the in ears that are not very kindly to this headphone output. Let’s see.

I’m experiencing a real soft high pitched noise when using my HD-25-1 cans which are 70 Ohm. When using Beyerdynamics DT990 which are 250 Ohm there’s no unwanted noise at all  Haven’t tried my IEMs yet. Regardless the noise I’m hearing when using my HD-25 is not bothersome.

On battery power only, there is no unwanted noise as far as I can tell.

Using Push’ PSU or USB C connected to my macbook pro power brick will result in Push producing this noise through its headphone output.

Could be the wiring in my house a some digital modules in my eurorack system seem to pick up the same type of noise as well.

*Tried out IEM’s in the mean time, that’s unbearable, even on battery power only it’s very noticeable.

I’ve been raising this issue for years. I saw a recent video with Bolo and J Black and J Black says changing this is on Ableton’s radar.

I have accidentally added “User Library” to Places and now I see it twice. How do I edit places on push standalone?

I’ve tried the two low/medium impedance cans I have – AKG 701 (60 ohm) and Sennheiser HD598 (50 ohm) – and am not hearing any noise on either pair. But I’ve got some high frequency hearing loss so it’s possible the soft high pitched noise @markbuning reports is out in one of the frequency regions where I’m deficient or there’s unit-to-unit variability in this. Will get one of my teenage kids to try it this evening to see if “young ears” notice anything.

ADAT tips – Long ADAT runs via Cat5

Problem: The maximum cable length for ADAT is 5 meters and my ADAT preamp (ADA8200) sits far enough away from where I’ve got my Push 3 setup that this is an issue for me

Solution: I found this ADAT to Cat5 device from a Swiss company called Appsys that will carry 8 x 8 channels of ADAT up to 100m over Cat5. They seem largely out of stock from most retailers in the US but I did find one available to buy and its due to arrive Sat. Looks straightforward so I don’t anticipate any drama with it:

They also make a smaller, cheaper version that only handle 8 channels in one direction.

Mine just turned up (UK)

  • Had the error message on turn on - weird that slipped though QC!
  • Updated to latest firmware first- no issues.
  • Registered Suite (nice process, very clever), again no issues and no load time so I assume everything is already on the unit just waiting to be activated…
  • Download a few packs now- clicked multiple (slow downloads despite being on a very fast connection - still, it runs in the background so you can still play!)
  • Everything seems to be working ‘standalone’ (haven’t plugged it in yet and the supplied cable is way to short for me with my desktop setup), headphone output and quality is good, everything seems to work as it should

I had a quick play, pad quality is superb, MPE works really well (different to the Osmose but that a good thing- slides now available!) and there is so much ‘stuff’ available with Suite that you will never need to run VSTS- stuff 'em, this is a stand alone recording studio as it is!

I am going to stick my neck out and say this is the most powerful standalone ‘workstation’ that has ever been available.

I was also impressed that any non standard packs you had in your account (I had Acoustix and Tronix by Sample labs) show up for download…buying any pack in future will now be double the joy knowing it runs on my hardware! Hopefully some devs will start updating packs top make them PUSH 3/MPE friendly.

Absolutely incredible. Stoked for this!

This fixed my headphone noise issue. While I wish I didn’t have to use this, at least there is a fix.

Can anyone users rate Drift as a synth?

Sound quality wise. Imagine if it was in a HW synth, how much would you pay for it.
