I have a few questions before jumping into buying it:
Is the P3 playback audio warp algo really good like the Ableton’s one? Did any of you felt anything wrong with that? (my Akai Force has a shitty one even after 1 bpm increment)
I saw you can plug a class compliant usb to midi converter into the P3 so for example if you save a project in Ableton with midi channels assignments to particular midi ports of the midi converter are those kept in mind when you load the project in stand alone P3? Or do I need to do the assignments manually anytime I load a new project. (the same for the midi controllers)
Are the midi program changes assignments kept when importing the Ableton project into the P3?
Did you get any memory limitation if you had to many big files like back up tracks or something?
Curious does any of you already played some gigs live with the stand alone P3? Did you get any crash with the last firmware?
Any inside about these things will be really helpful, unfortunately there is no place to test it in my town.
It remembers yes. MIDI channel assignments etc. Are kept. One thing you need to do is to activate the midi controller in the settings similar as Ableton DAW. That’s a one time thing though.
Not sure since I don;t use program changes.
So far no. I did encounter a sluggish UI when using my live performance set but it is a pretty complex and heavy project which I’m currently streamlining to fix that. But we’re talking many many stock plugins. Audio file playback is not heavy at all so I would be surprised if someone hits a memory limitation there.
No crashes in standalone so far. Gigs planned for 2024.
Another thing I so far encountered that I hope they will fix is the muting of drum pads in a drum rack. You can only do this by holding mute and tapping pads. Unfortunately the mute button position is less than ideal. So there’s a neat lock option to lock the mute mode, but this only works for the display buttons and not for drumrack pads. Really surprised me as that seems like a no brainer workflow enhancement thing.
Would it be possible to create something in M4L to fix this?
amazing for your fast reply, you just made me buy it
I hope they will let the usb connect to class compliant sound cards so I can connect it to Pioneer V10 with usb cable for 4 stereo channels, that will be gold
I think this very unlikely to happen. As has been mentioned in this topic, class compliant usb audio is not as headache free as a lot of people seem to be thinking. And I’m not sure Ableton wants to take the risk to open that can of worms. That’s why ADAT was added which works really well
Interesting CPU usage saver I just came across:
In stead of slapping effects on a return channel, add an audio track and slap those FX on that audio track. Then choose the return track as the input for that audio track.
Don’t ask me why but this saves anything between 1 - 5% cpu depending on the (amount of) plugins. Talking about Ableton DAW here but I’m sure this translates to push as well.
A word of warning : I think this technique also adds a delay, or at least the track won’t be delay compensated. Unless you disable all sends on this track. And in this case, my bet is that the CPU would be the same.
I got the udg push 3 pick foam case today. Took me an hour to “pluck” the compartments to my desired shapes & depth… The process was annoying and fiddly. But I like the outcome.
Build quality: It’s one step below real flight case quality and I wouldn’t check it in as luggage on an airplane. It’s not as flawless as it looks in the pictures, you can see that the materials are mid-range, which the price gives you an idea of. Nevertheless, it’s by no means scrap or bad, just not high end.
But on the positive side I would take it with me as hand luggage without any worries.
It is sturdy enough on the outside + inner cushioning to protect the Push 3 from any arms length drop. It’s super light - due to the aluminium - for its size and the lid is detachable. You can put small locks on both butterfly locks and it has rubber feet at the bottom and the downward facing horizontal side for support in standing. You can keep the decksaver on when closing the lid.
Here are some pictures, the black on black contrast f****ed with my cam, bare with me.
You can put a MIDI FX rack containing only one empty chain, then use the mute of the chain.
Also, this “feature” is being discussed so drop a request !
With how heavy the P3S is I would be nervous about it getting dropped or knocked around without some better cushioning, at least on the corners… I don’t mind spending $100-200 to protect a $2000 piece of gear.
