Im sure that they will still iron those imperfections. But It will not ever be perfect, it might be smart to find workarounds and just live with it for now. For my personal experience once you do them often enough you end up forgetting that there is an another much easier and cleaner way of achieving something.
No I mean the arpeggiator midi effect
Looking for advices…
Do you think it’s dumb to keep P3 Just as a sound module/interface and sequencing It with a Vector sequencer?
I currently own the controller version and planned to upgrade when possible but…
I Just don’t like the push sequencer, I’m more a step sequencer guy and I’m more inspired with the Vector workflow.
I’m following a minimalist approach to music (sold a bunch of modular/hardware) and I’m more into the performative aspect rather than producing complete tracks.
I’m considering returning P3 but It could be quite a compact setup Vector/p3 without needing any external device…
but I’m torn because for now I Will be using it Just like a super fancy midi controller with the future possibility to work standalone.
Honestly, don’t get caught up in the some of the comments about the stock synths. They’re not inferior, they’re just different.
If you read some of those posts, you find people trying to recreate something in another synths and comparing it to that, but just like hardware things are different.
In live you are working with core oscillators. You do need to choose which effects to run through (or use presets to start from). If you don’t like the setup, you could also just do this once and save as your synth to work from moving forward.
Now there should be absolutely no complaints about filters in Live/Push 3. Andy Cytomic collaborated to add algorithms from, or based on the Drop. These additions (from 2015?) will make anything large as needed… just look for Drive options on selected algorithms.
Cytomic’s the Glue is also there.
With a soft synth the built in effects are often sub-par compared to 3rd party plugins, but they become part of the overall sound especially when pushed by sound designers who look for sweet spots… again no different than in the hardware domain.
Live’s tools have sweet spots and M4L offers even more tools (think routing, sequencing, modulation and use of IRs) to build even more options than any soft synth.
Again, think different and let go of what you’ve used before. If you haven’t spent time designing your own sounds (not assuming/I just don’t know) then it’ll seem a little convoluted at first, especially if you don’t know where to look.
If you’re building out in Live to export to Push 3 (strongly suggested as not all parameters are available yet) then remember to right click on the device bar for more options and look for additional menus.
Have you tried the Melodic step sequencer on push as well?
its more that its pages upon pages of menus to control them, with an counterintuitive gui for a lot of them.
was hoping to NOT have to build in live and export. My dream was to create patches on my couch ‘standalone’ or on the go. a macbook seems more suited to my specific needs for that.
you are right though, every time i am overly critical of something bundled within live I have misunderstood it or not been able to dive deep enough. it is frustrating to me they did not build UI out for the push 3’s beautiful screen. maybe they will, but for now it is a headache to do what i want.
It is a ton of pages!
I do expect this to become better… I mean it really needed to become better, but I think workflow will take time.
Wavetable is great to work with from Push 3 and a big reason I expect future changes… just not anything immediate.
Yep, I find it confusing. Vector is like a mini-Cirklon; it provides visual feedback for notes, subsequences, and allows for instant manipulation of the sequence through transposing, masking, and so on. This enables me to focus solely on using the Push for sound design and manipulation.
Speculative question, but do you think once they’ve eventually gotten the UI to truly gel with the Push 3, they’d release that as Ableton 12? As someone who is seriously considering shelling out north of 2500 EUR for a Push 3 and a Suite license - more than I’ve ever spent on music gear - having Ableton then ask me to throw them another 500 to get the fully integrated experience in a year from now would feel like the ultimate German “”…
Does anyone have a link to the correct cable to use for pedal CV out for push 3?
I’ve went through two so far… this second one is split but it only outputs on output 5 for both splits -_-
Not really how Ableton releases work. For starters you don’t pay 500 to go to a newer version if you’re on suite.
I’ve found that with ableton they release a new version as a starting point for many new things to come. Going from 10 to 11 wasn’t all that big of a change apart from a few new devices and a few other interesting things. Then mpe support came. More new devices, and now push.
As far as I know they also tend to go much higher into the release numbering. live 10 stopped at 10.9 I think ? Maybe I’m not remembering that correctly though.
I don’t have an answer other than to say that upgrades are usually under 200. I believe they’re dynamic based on what release you’re upgrading from.
Next, I don’t think Push 3 would differ simply because it has its own OS and release cycle.
Not everyone jumps to new versions immediately so it’d likely need to support multiple iterations of Live just like how Push 2 does.
Hope that helps?
It definitely is scary…. And even more scary is how sub $500 product start to seem cheap and affordable!
I’ve used these: Amazon.com
Even if they release live 12 which I doubt will be anytime soon you don’t pay full price to upgrade if you have a previous version. I paid 149 EUR to upgrade from live 9 to 11. Pretty fair deal if you ask me
Has anyone here hooked up a Roland SH4D to their Live/Push? Seems like a good combo with multi-synth engines and in a desktop format.
That is fair and good to know. I come from Reason where they want half the cost of a full license regardless of how many versions you upgrade from.
I did very briefly, before I sold my SH-4d. They are a decent pairing if you really want to use some kind of knobby hardware with the Push, but I felt like it was too redundant.
Getting an email minutes ago from Ableton offering 20% off a standalone Push 3 stings a bit
Send them a message… Aren’t you within your new 30 day period for the Standalone?
Where is that offer? That could push () me over the edge…
