Long story short, I found an okay deal on a gently used Digitakt 2 in my area and all signs are pointing to it not being sketchy/scam - we’ve agreed to meet at a cafe with a power outlet so I can test/inspect the device before purchase - I generally prefer to buy used gear because money is tight and this seems okay.
I was browsing a reddit thread recently and saw there have been some QA issues with the mk2 - the guy I’m getting it from has agreed to a warranty transfer (he purchased from B&H) but obviously I’d like to avoid having to deal with getting a defective unit serviced. Are there any quick tests I can run with the device when we meet up to make sure things are looking okay? I know that screen issues and problems with sticky buttons have popped up recently but wondering if there is a quick way to test for these. Apologies if this question was posted elsewhere. Thanks!

If it has glaring issues, you’ll know. The banding across the screen is pretty evident. Elektron warranty transfers without any interaction from the prior owner, that’s not an issue.
If any keys are randomly lit in like magenta or blue or yellow, generally only like 4 keys in close proximity and none of the others are like that, and mutes don’t turn green there and nothing seems to change that color, then that’s one sort of issue that pops up and requires something to get warranty repaired. But should be real in your face if it’s there.
You can power it on with the func button held down, and it will bring up the error test menu and you can check for errors and if you want (within the same pre boot menu) you can perform the keys test and make sure all the buttons and knobs respond but that’s on you if you want to go through all that. Pretty easy to accomplish though.
Other than that, just using common sense. If B&H has a warranty that he can transfer that’s cool too, but the elektron warranty is 3 years from the date of manufacture, or if you have the receipt I think it goes for 3 years from the date of purchase.
There are issues with a lot of products from a lot of brands which are more expensive and have a way less comprehensive warranty than elektron does so generally speaking, if it looks good and sounds good then there’s probably nothing to stop you from picking it up as long as that’s what you want and it’s a good price, otherwise buy it new because a lot of stores have discounts currently.
Good luck.

Oh I also wanted to mention that if you do that keys test in the pre-boot menu, the first 2 trig buttons (the numbered ones) will make the screen all white or all black and that’s normal, it’s a pixel test but some people freak out when they see it and it’s understandable because you’d expect the same response as the other buttons which is to show text on the screen corresponding with what you pressed, and also of note is that the next few numbered trigs (maybe 3-4-5) make the led lights change color (also part of the test) and that’s normal too.
