Connecting the ground pin to the mix in pin
ahhhhh I got you, I will give that a shot, thanks!
Is there a way to trigger start stop of looper/recorder module on pulsar via midi or external cv? so when i press play on my digitone or ableton, pulsar starts playing with looper notes in sync?
The “lrst” rod I think is the looper restart cv input
The start/stop of the looper will sync automatically when you start/stop an external piece of gear driving the Pulsar via MIDI. Make sure you have the Digitone or Ableton Live sending clock and note data and it will sync up.
noice.
while we’re at it, is there a way to open lyra’s gates from pulsar? without using the adapter. i guess using please insert CV output module on Pulsar -> crocodile -> jack cable -> lyra gate input
Lyra does work completely different: it doesn’t want a voltage to be sent to a single input, but it wants a connection between two contacts to be closed/opened.
But of course you doesn’t need the adapter made by Soma, because this adapter is only a nice way to get the contacts “plugable”. You can also attach cables to the contacts however you want.
in order to get pulsar working with standard 3.5mm eurorack i/o, is there a cable or adapter for that?
(I obviously mean other than the built in ones on the pulsar itself… I want lots and lots of connections back and forth)
I was just connecting a alligator clip to a cable on my last session. Worked fine.
Yeah as long as you have something connected in the jacks between the euro and pulsar so that it’s got ground, the. You can just clip directly onto the euro cables
oh wow that’s crazy convenient
thank you @relapse808 and @MichaalHell
i could not get this working. i use ableton as master -> usb midi to digitone (midi send clock set in DN) -> midi in on Pulsar.
i can trigger and sequence pulsar modules from digitone, but the looper doesn’t start or stop when i press play in ableton, it continuously loops.
what am i missing?
Not sure, it works fine here. Send Soma a message, they’re super responsive and helpful.
If ambient is your thing I did a solo set with the pulsar/mood/ipad (samplr, koala)
specifics
BD used for a bass drone and then feeding it audio rate lfo to the tune
BASS in perc mode making howl and wind noises, lfo to the filter, clock divider to the tune (side chain) in
SD pinging the filter for watery sounds, ipad audio feeds into the tune for more pings, run ipad audio thru ext in around the end
HHT pinging the filter for bug sounds, run ipad audio thru ext in around the end
My very good friend have recently bought a Pulsar, and I have to say that all my misgivings (the seemingly very specific sound, the silly alligator clips, the main mix in mono) fell totally away after actually playing the machine. It is really an example of something where the sum is greater than the parts. The different voices mesh together beautifully and the interface is brilliant in the way it gently pushes you toward experimenting while staying very musical (and fun!)
This EP is the result of a lovely evening with lots of red wine, dinner and four hands on the Pulsar - and me doing some heavy editing afterwards, adding various slow moving drones to counterbalance the mutating grooves. The Pulsar is very much the star of the show, though.
Enjoy!
Love the pulsar, but hate the cheap little power supply they provide with it. It wobbles in my power outlets. Has anyone tried a replacement that’s quality?
Also, is there a place to buy additional alligator clips that aren’t $60 bucks?
You can get them cheap on amazon
Alligator clips are v cheap but the ones I found and use have a bigger clip than the ones soma provide. It can sometimes be annoying when patches get thicc but w this machine you already have to embrace the spaghetti.
I would also like to replace the power supply. I hate it.
Can’t say I’ve spent any time looking at and bemoaning the Pulsar-23 power supply. It’s a two-pin jobby so I have it connected to my power tower (10 input vertical adaptor) via a black two pin to three pin adaptor. Which is underneath my raft of a desk. Too busy having the time of my life with the unit to consider my feelings towards the power supply.
