This one goes from psytechno, to downtempo, and a bit regular tech house - nice journey imho.
Hits different.
Highly recommend Horns and Hoofs Entertainment label.
So much good psy-techno released from them its kind of silly ![]()

A question for the thread. I had a listen to the music posted and this indeed fits what I imagine as Psytechno. The problem is, there is another genre that is blending Psytrance and Techno (in fact, more Hard Tekno/Tribe) which doesnāt sound like this. While sharing some of the characteristics, it has distinct different quality in the interplay between kick and bass. I feel Psytechno still has the Psytrance interplay between triplet bass and kick, albeit with some techno sound obtained by enphasizing the kick on the one.
While this other genre usually keeps the interplay from Hardtek kick and bass. Both then use psychedelic atmospheres on the background but this one is darker.
If the music in this thread is Psytechno, maybe this should be called Technopsy?
Not quite in the same vibe but defo psychedelic techno for me is Lampeā
Jolly good stuff
Been a big fan of Zenon and ibogatech and that sort of stuff for years, but I always called it progressive psy trance.
Your Bandcamp example qualifies and there are some really good tracks in the compilation, i find often also parallel examples in Tek or in Hypnotic techno, where similar concepts are used. (Hypnotic beat, then a lot of one shot sounds that amplify the overall atmosphere )
In fact it is called progressive. And as I mentioned it is a bit different from the one I posted. Zenon Records has a wonderful sound but again, I feel itās more like āpsy made with techno beatsā. While I was looking for a category for the more hardtekno/psy stuff (hardtekno made with psy sounds). It is a subtle difference but it creates a completely different feeling. Psy with techno beats still has the cybernetic/psy festival atmosphere. Tek/Psy sounds faster and way darker, muddier, I would say āswampierā (hence the term Swamp Techno).
Very nice set, quiete enjoy the embedded textures /melodies.
Awesome album.
This slaps and it is mainly modular/hardware focus performance with Octatrack involved. I am amazed at the cleanliness and overall quality of the mix. Stunning performance.
I like xompax very much, all of his stuff is great.
ā¦whatever the ot does here, itās reverbs are not involved in making up those huuuge space shaper room ambiencesā¦
I spotted some 19 inch rack units, maybe thats the sauce to keep it together.
Sensient should get a mention in a thread like this with Zenon records.
Same with Hellquist.
It definetely handles some samples (I saw him mute and unmute the kick in the beginning which was on T1 of OT) and they sound great despite the hate OT is constantly getting about sound quality. They really punch through the mix (obviously, there can be some process after and they are definetely not made inside the OT).
Also he uses it for PUNCH IN FX with the FADER during MACRO/MINI transitions.
ā¦nope, donāt get me wrongā¦those haters just need something to hateā¦and just canāt wrap their head around that sonic swiss knifeā¦
and all the basic bones that carry his whole tracks are defenitly happening on the ot, while all his top lines, lead elements, fractals and bass is happening on his modular rig sideā¦and those reverbs are also coming from somewhere else and not from the otā¦since otās reverbs are defenitly not state of the art anymoreā¦all the rest of otās capabilities and tricks and options remain timeless individual grandezzaā¦at least for those who know what to do with itā¦
and btpā¦after skipping through the posts here, i can say, psytrance is greatā¦but psytechno is not that much my cup of teaā¦lacks quite some basic musicality⦠dark 'n darker sounddesign above everything else and no other main focus, all just drowning in big spaces is not really nailing anything for meā¦
Yes, its mostly dark experimental noise. That is what i like sbout it Tonal elements reduced to a minimum.
There is some more trance unfluenced acts tho.
