I used to have one. Can’t even recall why I sold it. Perhaps I felt guilty for not using it as deserved. It had more hi-fi sound than Comman Station that I had before P2500. Rest was the same. Hands-on control. Wide modulation options, punchy E-MU sound. Can be expanded with ROMs. Wonderfuly advanced sequencer that could record MIDI in loop on one track, switch to another and record there without stopping - great with controlling the start/stop/rec with footswitch. There’s a lot of know-how online about E-MU Comman Stations/Proteuses. Small screen was a bit of handicap by todays standards but it was doable thanks to many buttons around. I was seriously thinking about converting it to a desktop module. Nostagic part of me wants it back.
I got a Proteus 2000 recently. I think it’s the best bang for your buck rompler. Perfect when you want to grab a flute, string or vocal sound. Lot of good synth patches too. Love to run it through a couple Eventide pedals.
I have a 2500 with max roms, the exact same thing but more hands on, are the command stations (exact same motherboards inside), MP7, PX7, XL7, same as 2500 but with pads to beat on!
I love mine, there is even a new rom out from BALMA, sold by haxorhax.
Big E-Mu fan. I have the proteus 1, 3 World, and procussion. If I had the money and space I’d get an E-mu Drumulator. You can get an editor for them which opens up all the editing in your DAW. If it’s a good price I’d grab it. They’re different enough to compliment other romplers like the Roland JV/XV.
Also, if you’re just looking for the filter from the E Series samplers - check out this M4L device:
I’m not affiliated but it looks like the biz. Of course, If any of you are selling an E-Mu E6400, feel free to message me.
