I want to catch one… yes but OB-6 or PROPHET-6? I have heard every video and audio demos of these 2 desktop modules… they are both GREAT machines… and sounds great… Does anyone has tried both?
From demos/videos OB-6 seems little more “vintage” sounds, so I’m addressed to buy PROPHET-6 (and PROPHET-6 desktop module cost 400 less than OB-6)…
Unfortunately there is no local store near to try them…

Elektron Analog 4
Virus TI 2 (that I will use as master keyboard for OB-6 or Prophet 6)
After being amazed by about 30-45 minutes of the OB6 I tried the P6 a little and ended up preferring the OB6. Maybe I didn’t spend enough time with the P6.
It felt rawer, more powerful, which is a sound I tend towards (the various filters are awesome). The P6 was more wholesome and smooth.
This is of course entirely my opinion and always YMMV.
EDIT: and, seriously, those blue stripes are lovely.
EDIT2: And of course they’re both amazing and I’m sure you’ll be happy with either.
Spent 2hrs at DV247 trying the OB-6, P6, P12…
Started out on the OB for 20 mins, moved on to the P6 (lasted 5 mins), P12 (5 mins)…
Went back to OB for the rest of the time - thats how much I loved that sound.
P6 a bit smoother and dual filter but I wanted melancholic pads with a deep raspy sound… no brainer the OB with its filter.
P12 great and multi timbral but digital vco’s? No thanks.
Personal taste, absolutely adore the OB and bought it. The blue lines? Soooo damn cool.
I have both the P6 and the OB6. I love them both but if I had to sell one it would be the P6. The OB6 is much ‘sweeter’ sounding when getting into the higher registers. And still has the low end ‘umph’ that the Prophet is good for.
I actually could see the P6 working best. BUT both would suit you just fine.
Man, you def should try them out. Where do you live? Maybe try to work it out with the nearest dealer to “buy” both and ship back the one that doesn’t work? Doesn’t sweetwater do this? They are hefty price tags to take a chance…
A little something I put together today. Using the OB-6 for the chords and OT arpeggiator with extensive use of the filter which I love. Also using the Vermona Perfourmer MK2 and Rytm… endless amount of twisting fun…
Yesterday I finally tried the OB-6 (keyboard) and the Prophet-6 (desktop)… they are all BEASTS for PADS and VINTAGE LEADS… but if I had to choose one (and I have to choose one), I prefer OB-6… it’s more “80’s sound” than the Prophet-6… I think it’s the filter that make this difference, because on simple patches I tried to create from INIT they sounds very similar…
So now I just have to earn much €€€ to buy OB-6… (I think my wife will kill me )
Looking for people’s opinions/experiences. I’ve wanted a Prophet 6 for the longest time as it has that awesome lush vintage analog sound. I got a good deal on a Rev 2 desktop and snagged it so I’m not in much of a rush for an analog poly anymore but I eventually want to get a VCO poly. It’d feel weird getting the P6 because I already have a prophet, even though they’re different. Any suggestions? Which do you think is better and why?
They are very similar in functionality but with a different tone. Watch some demos is the best bet and decide which resonates with you. I went for the OB and have no regrets.
I have lol, that’s why I’m now here asking for people’s opinions. I believe I’ve seen all the comparisons. Starsky Carr did the best comparison but it doesn’t help me decide!
