I tried to transfer samples to my Rytm MKI last night, and couldnt get anything working. Even the folders I created for the transfers are not deletable somehow, have tried deleting the folders both via transfer app and from the hardware… Transfer app says “unable to remove folder (it is protected)” and the hardware says “FOLDER NOT EMPTY” even though it does not seem to contain anything…
Any ideas what could have happened? I will try again later today with my old laptop, just to make sure the problems were not caused by my new M4 mac mini somehow… Both macs have OS Sequoia and latest version of the transfer app
Its a bit worrying, my Rytm is soon 13 years old so its also possible the internal memory is starting to go flaky… but for now, hoping its just a software issue… Yet, the inability in deleting the folders I attempted to transfer does seem concerning…
I’ll also try transferring some other samples this time, its possible there was something weird with the files (unlikely though, they were baisc WAVs)
I’ll also need to check if Void’s SDS Drop still works on some software platform, just to give me an alternative for using transfer app altogether. SDS Drop used to be brill, hope it still works on something…
My Mk1 doesn’t like any activity over usb other than Transfer and it also does not like fast clicking around doing things in Transfer. Even something like creating two folders and then deleting one effectively put’s Transfer on hold, I have to wait a couple of minutes until it catches up.
Also I think I recall a similar issue…it resolved itself after rebooting Rytm and PC.
I see… Thanks for the insight. I didn’t try rebooting the M4 mac, only power cycled the Rytm several times. Had to power cycle the Rytm because it locked up on every failed transfer attempt.
Did you eventually manage to delete the undeletable files/folders though?
Yeah, everything worked fine after rebooting. I’m extra cautious since and wait a moment after creating or deleting a folders. Transfer once didn’t respond for two minutes or so, because I started to drag a second set of samples into a folder without waiting a moment after the first one.
Of course I don’t know if that’s your issue and in case it’s indeed failing memory I’m pretty sure Elektron does repairs.
Good luck!
My spouse’s old macbook = no problems whatsoever
all my Apple Silicon macs (running Sequoia) = crashes Rytm, undeletable folders result
Both configs used the latest version of transfer…
I dont know what to do to the “corrupted” folders in my plus drive, since I cannot use nor delete them… I’ll just need to avoid them altogether. probably should email support while im at it
Yeah, probably best to contact support. I’d think you can just ignore the folders, but I don’t really know how the file system and the hardware works and if there’s an increased risk of crashes or errors/problems with files now.
Maybe try reloading the project, try to load a different project and see if you can delete the folders. Also if you have access to a Windows machine, might be worth a try.
Submitted a bug report to Elektron. Seems the issue affects at least macOS Sequoia 15.2 & 15.3.1, since I tested using transfer with both of those OSes on two different apple silicon macs.
Elektron support replied, this issue is on their radar and a fix will be forthcoming in the near future. In the meantime, I dont recommend using transfer with Rytm MKI for sample transfers if you’re on an apple silicon mac running Sequoia
