Came here for this one with the recent boutique announcement. Boy, Roland’s in here a lot!
I don’t have any music hardware at the ready then, but this topic reminds me of this video game title:
void tRrLM();++
Pronounced as Void Terrarium Plus Plus.
I’m from San Diego and for some reason, I think it’s because of Randall Cunningham, I have a soft spot for all Philly teams. Even the dang Phillies who always destroy us in the playoffs. As a whole, the Philly teams have incredible uniforms and that’s important to me. Also we need a catch-all sports thread.
Hidden to not be flagged because this is a very important topic.
I really have a hard time with the acronym “DAW” it legitimately sounds stupid. You can’t say it without becoming a mouth breather. And WTF is a digital audio workstation anyway? Does running Word make my computer a digital typing workstation?
(I’m old and we called it “desktop publishing” ie using a printer)
@malus_mons hit the nail on the head for me. I just realized when I use DAW in an explanation to my wife, I really do pause and almost have to say it with a sort of “actually ” energy. Now I’m going to be self conscious of this…
Quite right. But basically the whole world is unaware initialisms are a thing, and so group both pronounceable and unpronounceable versions as acronyms. It’s like everyone says tannoy, tarmac, hoover etc. (Getting my best Alan Partridge on here.)
The trend, particularly among online SaaS/PaaS platforms, to name adjectivise things in a cute way by adding “-ly” to a common word is very grating.
Also the appropriation of .io (Indian Ocean Territory) domains for all things software- or games-related has always seemed a bit weird to me (getting a bit off topic here), just because of the very tenuous connection to i/o meaning input/output in engineering.
Sad to hear. TLD misappropriation really grinds my gears (.cat comes to mine) but at last for micro nations, some money went where it was useful. Should not be surprised that web 2.0/X.0 is even more of a blatant money grab.
