Pressing stop stops the samples playing

Hi all, just wondering if there’s any way to stop the Octatrack (literally pressing stop key) and letting long samples keep playing in the background. I know for sure it’s possible with the analog Rytm and it would be handy for me to do that on the Octatrack as well. any helps is really appreciated, cheers

I would use a scene to achieve this.

I think if parameters on AMP page are set accordingly (infinite hold and\or decay), the sample will continue playing if you press stop once. Pressing stop button twice will “kill” all the sounds tho

This is correct

The sample will also keep playing when you change banks and will only stop when a new sample is triggered on the same track.

A looped sample will keep playing forever if no trig is played.

Hi guys and thanks for the quick replays.
Sorry but this is driving me nuts, I cannot achieve what you say in any way
In the amp page Hold and Rel are both set to infinite, pressing twice the amp button leads me into a sub menu called amp setup but even there seems like there’s nothing able to solve this problem,
when I press stop key once all the samples will stop.
Am I missing something?
Please help :cold_sweat:

Pressing stop stops the samples playing.

Switching to an empty pattern could be one workaround but be aware there are different settings for duration between triggering the pattern change and the change itself.

For just one track you could clear the page. Clear again to undo it.

In arranger you can move cursor to “END OF ARR.” & Enter - currently trigged samples will continue to play

There may be nicer workarounds. Consider changing thread title to get more suggestions - lots of lateral thinkers here

Cheers Clancy thanks for your advice, definitely changed the thread title straight away :smirk:

not really looking for a workaround but more up to understand if it’s something Octatrack would normally do straight out of the box as @GirTheRobot and @provoda say.
A friend of mine got the Analog Rytm MKI and when he presses the stop button only once the playing samples keep going till the end unless pressing stop once again.
I am assuming that’s something you can easily do with OT as well avoiding any other workaround?

I’m afraid they’re mistaken. Though I hope it’s me that’s wrong as it would be a cool feature!

There might be a mix up with the fact that the OT does some stuff on second press of Stop - Like it stops thru machines where the first press leaves them running, it also sends some MIDI settings on a double stop - affects ARM states as well (can’t remember exact behaviour rn)

Another twist to the mystery :smirk:

Any other thoughts out there?

That’s all there is to it.

I’m wrong, more exploration required.

well you need to have loop turned on also.

Loop is set to auto, tried to set it to on but nothing changed

The problem is I went to check the situation on the OT and just started jamming for like 30 minutes.

I think the suggestion of transitioning to an empty pattern is probably the easiest to achieve the desired effect, although that does require some planning.

The perpetual OT state for all users!

Even with free tracks where tracks should normally be totally independant from the sequencer, stop button, stops all…How to cripple good ideas…This has always annoyed me to the extreme !

Yeah, OT is a state of mind, really.

Transitioning to an empty pattern is definitely the way to go as a workaround.

What is really nagging me is the fact that if you check OT and Analog Rytm manual it says exactly the same:

Pressing [STOP] will stop the playback of all tracks, except tracks containing Thru machines. The sound will be cut off, but effects like the Echo Freeze Delay will continue to be audible until the delay repeats have faded out. Press [STOP] + [STOP] to stop playback of all tracks, kill the Echo Freeze Delay and send out an all notes off MIDI command on all MIDI tracks.

So why when my friend presses stop on his Analog Rytm MKI the sample keeps playing until the end of its length unless double tap on stop key?

I can only imagine at some point it got really annoying on the OT since you sometimes put really long samples tracks. But that’s just guessing.
