hey all
so i sat down this afternoon to make a jam for jamuary 2026 and felt sudden drop in my stomach when i realised it february already
fuuuck
anyway until next jamuary
peace
Last year, I just kept posting ‘Jamuary’ videos all year long. Highly recommended! ![]()
Jamuary is a state of mind, not a pair of chronological markers
Nothing wrong with taking a break.
You do you, my friend!
I’m compiling some notes about what I made and how I made it. There were some surprises in there for me, and I found some good workflows. I think I learned a ton.
I’m also really excited to get back to some longer term songwriting and making finished tracks. Gonna be a good year!
@Bitsnbobs Keep sharing!
I’ve got one addition today in the SSL’s if you’re on Syntakt. You’ll see some familiar Jamuary names in various SSL’s too, like @Oxenholme and @verdurin
Then, also in the Science Labs, another off/on Jamuary contributor, @LyingDalai created this one here: Go raw! #DIV/0!
Like @plragde mentions… it is a state of mind. We all have different reasons for participating but I would think the biggest take away is using what we have, making sounds freely, sharing and knowing how to move on too.
I’m reworking some of my stuff and hoping to add some of them to the shared tunes thread later in the month if I’m lucky, or later in the year if it becomes that kind of year (again).
Looking forward to what you post!
I just kept on going really. Same shit, different name. ![]()
Jamuary is a state of mind. Welcome to Februjammy. Also, remember to take rests. We’ve earned it.
I really don’t get this Jamurary. As I understand it was something Cuckoo came up with and that’s fine - I like him and respect him. But does it have to be something everyone is doing every year? How good can the quality of what you’re making get when you have to jam every day? Personally I think making interesting sounds and music comes from working with it repeatedly and refining it.
I don’t mean to sound harsh, just my thoughs about it. People can of course do whatever they want ![]()
This is it really.
Lots of varying reasons to participate or not to participate. All of them would be valid.
have you ever heard of NaNoWriMo? its National Novel Writing Month where people around the country/world all try to write a novel in a month. depending on how you choose to participate you can use it to connect and collaborate with other writers, you can set your own personal goals/structure, its loose but there is an overarching shared goal of writing a novel.
same with Jamuary, but music
There’s a drawing challenge too, but I forget what it’s called and what month it’s in.
InkTober, MerMay, 36 days of type. Tons of art things as well…
They’re all just ways of building a bit of community and getting into the habit of working on your craft daily.
Right, so like training and engagement I guess.
InkTober is the one I was thinking of. My aunt usually participates in it.
You get to set your own goals to takeaway from it, if any.
I like to try different things, such as different styles I wouldn’t normally try. I like to experiment with refining different workflows with different hardware setups, or experiment with different mixing tools. This year I had a focus on making something that I could either come back to or that I could have fun using as sample food for later.
Oh, I can see that I misunderstood Bitsnbobs opening post—I thought they were fatigued from having to do this for many days, when they were actually missing it.
No worries, I can always understand how it can seem insane among other things. I can say for me that It’s been fun participating.
I appreciate the post Jamuary clarity and breath ![]()
I’m going to work on a longer term project with a collaborator and practice my keyboard skills. Jamuary, for me, is a time to try out a bunch of ideas, stress test my systems, and get creative with what I can combine together. Now I get to step back and see if I’ve learned anything
For me that was exactly the beauty of jamuary. It doesn’t have to be perfect, the pace forced me to be creative and limited time forced me to commit, which I often struggle with and just endlessly tweak and refine, until I sometimes don’t even like it anymore. In not trying to create something serious I managed to create more new music than in the last few years, and there’s always an option to refine some of it in the future.
Good points for sure.
