Portable wav player for songs/sketches

Hello!

I recently had the idea, that I would like a portable wav player , where I can store all my music projects, sketches etc.

I bought an old iPod from a friend , thinking that would do the job , but later realized that it will not play wav files , 24 bit, 48 . I always export my tracks in this format , and I am looking for an easy way to “throw together” all this material without the need of converting.

Do anyone have any suggestions ?
Someone does anything similar ?

It will have to be at least 200 gb of storage .

Maybe someone have a newer iPod , the touch or something and know it they would accept this format?

I do not want to use phones or cloud services.

Zoom H series or similar handheld recorder?

IIRC that Pony player Neil young was involved in was aimed at the high end audiophile market, perhaps one of those can play high q. wav files?

You can put Rockbox firmware on some iPods and this will play many more formats than the standard firmware. https://www.rockbox.org/

Google Drive, Dropbox, … on your phone? I use Dropbox and I import in 44-16, though.

Thanks ! I will check it out

maybe that is a good solution !

I have one of these and I love it. Sounds great, long long battery life, and you can (and should) use the alternative Rockbox firmware.

Uses a microSD card so you have more than enough space.

I was just reading about this one, and it seems to fit what I want to do.
I will look into the Rockbox firmware.
Thanks

i would recommend some kind of Chinese portable hi-fi player – there is quite a few of them but i’m not sure what models are available in your region.
for instance, i use Shanling M0 Pro.
typically they use microSD cards for storage, play common lossless formats (and of course lossy ones too), and also can work as class compliant USB DACs — very handy in many circumstances.

That HiFi walker looks dope. Now if there only was a cheap n cheerful way to record DSD…

Might grab one of these anyway, the price is much more sensible than what Sony is asking

what do you prefer about the rockbox firmware, and what size sd card are you using?

128GB.

I prefer everything about the Rockbox. The stock firmware is pretty bad. Rockbox has more options, faster boot, way way better ui, and a lot of great themes.

Just one example. In the stock firmware, if you browse to an artist, you get a list of all that artist’s songs. You can’t navigate to artist > album > song.

On Rockbox it works as it should. The only thing Rockbox doesn’t do on this device is Bluetooth, but I use wired exclusively. You can always boot back into the stock firmware if you need BT.

Can the HiFi walker play back 192kHz wav files?

Not sure. I never have anything like that. Check the manufacturer’s page.

Their H20 Pro player claims to play 32bit 192kHz wav. Which just happens to be the format my new 2-track recorder will use… I’ll think about it
