You can even power the midi keyboard via the USB port on the speaker
Anyone found a fitting, padded bag for these?
I asked the company and they said they don’t know any …
Audio Pro T3+ seems to be discontinued. Available for £100 at hmv.com right now with free delivery (I just got one)
There’s supposed to be a 20% off referral deal, but I couldn’t get it to work. DM me if you want my code in case it works for you and gives you another £20 off
Edit: back in stock on audiopro.com so I guess not discontinued.
The absolute best for portable speakers for me is the JBL boombox 3 (expensive) $500
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-0jFadnhNIbc/p_109BMBOX3B/JBL-Boombox-3-Black.html
I’m using now a Soundblaster Roar 2 and is really nice $160
The boombox 3 stretches the definition of portable though - isn’t it as big as an old ghetto blaster? I guess that’s fine if you’ve got a shoulder free to carry it
JBL 3 is massive, perfect for a pool party: that thing is loud! Well, yes: searching for easy handling, you better choose something else
got me a pair of JBL Charge 4 (while they’re still in stock somewhere).
why: because they still have AUX In (Charge 5 don’t), so can be used as a wired stereo pair via proper combination of cables.
of course they can also be put to a stereo pair mode via bluetooth, at least on iOS, Mac OS and Linux (very easy to do with modern distros using Pipewire as audio server), not sure about Windoze because i avoid it.
I use a video projector in the backyard and the audio is provided by boombox via bluetooth. I noticed that every speaker I tried has an unnerving latency: the audio track of the movie sounds out of sync. This is to say that latency in bluetooth is definitely an issue: anyone who wants to use boombox for home theater is better off using cables.
Not always the cable will solve the problem. If the signal from the aux input goes through the fx processor for eq and comp and this is most often the case in cheap speakers, then the delay will also be too noticeable
So, Audio Addon Pro T3 Vs T3+ - what’s the verdict?
I’ve read the original T3 is ‘better’ in several ways, not least from the WhatHifi reviews, but I would appreciate Elektronaut practical experience!
We are changing apartments, and today we were cleaning the old one. I brought the Minirig 4 for its first real test, with music sourced from my iPhone on shuffle. At one point Aghartha by Sunn O))) came up. This is music not designed to be played on a single 70mm speaker, but it did a credible job! Colour me impressed.
I really like T3+, but I never listened to original T3. I think Whathifi compared it to C3 model.
They reviewed both the T3 and T3+:
but it does seem a bit unclear if they’re comparing its sound with the old T3 or the C3.
Picked up an Audio Pro Addon T3 today off a nice chap from Facebook. So far it’s the best-sounding portable speaker I’ve heard! I was playing some loops I’d made with the Maschine+ and the bass sounded rich, while top-end had a lovely sizzle. Overall full-sounding without coming across as boosted/optimised. Bloody amazing!
Edit: the battery life is incredible, and it can be used to charge external USB devices like phones. This is now my festival boombox so I can annoy people with jazz back at the campsite.
Good to hear all the good thoughts here.
I have a cabin hang planned in November with some close friends. I’m basically tasked with bringing the jamz.
Making a small battery powered DT2 + OP1 rig for this and I’m digging around for a speaker solution.
I’m currently leaning towards something like this, though its decidedly less portable.
I usually bring my Yamaha THR-10 to small house get togethers to use with whatever box I feel like that day. It works ok enough but I wouldn’t mind something that rocks a little harder.
I know much better portable speakers will be available, but i’ve just purchased an Anker Soundcore 2 for £26 delivered after being impressed with the sound of a friend’s at work while we’re working on a roof. His is 2 years old and still lasts about 3 work days.
Beachy club tunes, rock, pop and just about everything i’ve heard playing on it sounds as good and often better than most outside sound systems, with a pretty balanced, clear sound, but it’s unlikely to crank up too high at only 12w.
My 2 Makita work radios are too bass heavy to enjoy music on, especially inside as tunes start to sound alike and indistinct when the emphasis is all about the bass and those both cost over 5 times as much, so a no brainer for the price, especially as it’s rain proof and he uses his in the shower.
I have the Anker Soundcore 2, as well, and it’s been in use with no problem for years now. It sounds superb for the size and price. Anker in general have consistently quality products.
I found a solution I’m really happy with, while it might not be for everyone.
Yamaha THR30ii.
As a guitarist, I’m a big fan of the series. I previously owned the THR10 and THR5.
The 30ii adds an internal battery and bluetooth connectivity. It’s a huge improvement in sound quality IMO. This thing bangs.
It’s also a guitar amp with line outs. This is basically my main amp sim now. I read some iffy reviews on the bluetooth sound quality but I can’t agree with those. I think this sounds great.
It’s not at the neutrality or quality of a dedicated studio monitor but I would (and will) absolutely use this often for roughing out ideas on the go.
You’d have to specifically be into everything this has to offer for the value to be worth it, but it ticks many boxes for me. It’s going to be my go-to jam kit along with a Digitakt2, OP-1F and a guitar.
I like it so much, it solved another “problem” I’ve been having. I moved my big synths to a jaspers stand on the side of my desk to gain back some much needed surface space for various projects / school.
The jaspers is fantastic but I still had my monitors forward facing for DAW work. Well now I have a secondary speaker when I’m purely jamming on the synth rack.
I have it run through the second monitor source on my SSL B6. Just a button away from changing my speakers to the side setup.
or I just grab it off the lil shelf I have for it when I want to run off to the living room to jam.
Wahey, another satisfied Yamaha THR user! I’ve rocked the THR10 for years, it’s a brilliant guitar amp but also a fab platform for pedals. I’ve played Digitakt etc through it and the sound is great. Can use the amp sims or straight through without any additions.
