Portable Power

Hey hey Elektro-friends, is there a recommended battery/portable power unit (available in the US if possible) to run the Digitone/takt/and Syn simultaneously for 2-ish hours?

Thanks in advance.

I can’t recommend a specific unit but I can help with some basic math that can give you a rough idea on what to look for.

We can say that the Digitone and Digitakt would draw about 0.75A when in use.

The Syntakt would draw about 1A.

That is 2.5A when all three are used.

They need 12V to run, so that means they would consume around 30W of power, so let’s say your battery needs to have at least 30Wh capacity for each hour.

Most batteries have a 5V output that you need to step up to 12V. You will losses have losses.

Let’s say your converter has a 90% efficiency. That means for each 30Wh that your devoces consume, your battery needs to supply 33.33.

That means your battery needs to have at least 66.66Wh capacity (assuming that the specifications of the battery are accurate and are not exaggerated).

Assuming that you use one step up converter for each box, you need a power bank with three outputs.

Two of your outputs must be able to supply at least 2A at 5 volts for the Digitone and Digitakt.

You will also need an output that can supply at least 2.7A at 5 volts for the Syntakt.

Ideally your outputs would be able to supply 10-20% more current than needed for some headroom.

This is a very commonly asked question, and rightly so as a portable Elektron device is formidable indeed.

While not directly referencing powering multiple units here are a few threads on the subject of portable power which should help:
