Portable MIDI controller?

Hello guys,

I’m looking for suggestions on portable MIDI controllers. If it’s Bluetooth, even better, since I’ll be using it with my iPad, which still has a Lightning port and not USB-C.

I’ve never owned a serious controller before, so the more intuitive the recommendation, the more grateful I am.

Arturia MiniLab mk3 is a great portable controller., not bluetooth though. You would need the Apple Camera Connection lighting to Usb adapter, get one that has a power input and headphone output too.

Already have it, but you can’t power things from it. They need to be either battery powered or rechargeable

I stay french, playful joué, no Bluetooth but MPE

Hey, it would be good to clarify whether you want something with a keyboard type layout, a pad controller, or if you’re just looking for knobs and sliders similar to faderfox etc.

Also a general size and approximate price range? Even smaller than an ipad / larger than an ipad would be a good indication of what you prefer.

For some people pretty much anything with a battery can be considered portable to some degree, for other people it specifically means something that fits in your pocket. Some people want to tweak knobs and parameters, other people are looking for a better way to enter notes.

Unless you’re specific about the type of car that you want to drive you might end up with a truck.

Even even with the lightning cable connected?

Maybe you could use a USB ground loop adaptor with a battery bank, although that would be less elegant.

Man, I am going to be really honest with you. I don’t know. Probably I’d like everything, but still need the portability
I don’t know if I’d like knobs, they’d be very useful but if I have to program every one it would be boring and it would be easier to just use my finger on the screen

Yes even with that.
So far I’ve been using a powered usb hub plugged into the house socket and connected to the camera adapter

Maybe korg nanokey studio. couple knobs, couple pads, couple buttons, x/y touch and some keys. bluetooth midi. reasonable price. decent software by korg for programming it.

with tablet for comparison:

portable but will not fit in your pocket.

I’ve had my eye on this for a while. There’s a video on the Jakob Haq Youtube channel where he talks about how much he likes it
