Polyend Tracker

Not a stupid question. Yes you can use a controller for tweaks in performance mode, which is pretty awesome.

Should be using it more because you come up with pretty wild variations quickly. I wish you could render those to new patterns, though. That would be amazing.

Hmmm…

Anyone using BOTH M8 and Polyend Tracker? Is there a place for both?

Been messing with the headless M8 on my MacBook with a game pad, and feel like it’s really sparking something in me as a new way to make music. I’ve pre-ordered a M8, but that is realistically not going to get to me for 5/6 months, and not sure I can engage with the headless setup that long - have been trying to escape the laptop screen.

I’m wondering if it might be worth jumping on a used Tracker for a while whilst I wait, but I realise it’s not going to have any of the synth engines etc.

I’d say yes. I love the PT it sparks creativity in me.

So tempted to get another tracker. Really miss the work flow, but it’s been long enough to have forgotten why I sold the last one…

M8 looks great but I’m not sure I could get on with the tiny screen and tiny text etc….

were you using the tracker for sample based stuff or more midi based stuff?

I love it for sample based stuff

Purely sample based. It’s the only sequencer I found I got to places I wouldn’t have though of going tbh. Felt like a blank sheet rather than a ridged grid if that makes any sense. Have tried trackers on my laptop but didn’t get with them at all.

If the new silver one had a battery, I wouldn’t even question the purchase!

have you tried redux?

A while ago…. Just didn’t like the experience on a computer

You can use your laptop an external display :exploding_head:

I’m not actually sure the font size is smaller on M8 (I just don’t know). someone having both?

never had in my hand one but I have a PT and a Nanoloop FM (the M8 Is the same length that the Nanoloop FM). PT have a 7" screen, M8 2.8". Police size is def smaller to cram as much info into the M8 screen. If I look at this picture with the Play screen vs M8 :

Until seeing pictures like this or this one

I was not sure to understand how small the M8 is actually. Half of the length the size of three keycaps of your keyboard.

It is 9 cm by 12.9 cm device. The M8 is actually smaller than the Polyend Tracker Screen

I know the screen size is way different but there’s a lot more info on the pE tracker’s screen at once. Still not sure about font size

So is this still going to get updates or it goes the way of Medusa, Seq, and all the other Poly-abandonware?

Most are hoping the release of the Mini will bring an update to both devices as they share the same software.

If it doesn’t - then I’d take that as a sign of the future for the OG Tracker

Polyend have publicly stated it’s going to get more firmware updates.

I imagine they have been waiting on the release of the mini.

ā€œSince many of you are already Tracker owners and might be wondering - we haven’t abandoned the original tracker and are close to finishing the 1.7 update. However the Tracker Mini is on a new platform with a more powerful CPU, so many of the new features like stereo sampling will not be available for the original tracker.ā€

ā€œOG tracker will not have USB audio, stereo samples, anything that requires a whole lot more power as the CPU is pretty maxed out on OG already. OG Tracker will get UI improvements, all clicks and a whole lot of bugs will be fixed in 1.7 but I’m not sure of everything it will have.ā€

I was under the impression the tracker has had a bunch of firmware updates. I owned one for about 6 months and I remember at least a couple of pretty big updates in that time.

Frequency of updates does tend to slow as products mature though.

İ would be ok to have 1 minutes of stereo actually.

I don’t think it’s going to happen as I don’t think it has the CPU headroom for more channels regardless of RAM.

It would be cool if Polyend (or any company) gave upgrade discounts and recycled or donated the old units to schools. If I could trade in my old one and pay $200-300 I probably would.

If they can somehow bring the improved headroom and reduced (eliminated I hope!) popping and clicking to this thing I would rebuy it in a flash. The Tracker is the only piece of gear I’ve sold that I absolutely miss and consider rebuying. It was mostly great but I felt like I had to spend way too much time fucking around with gain staging and smoothing out all those stupid clicks that could come from just about any use of modulation or simply applying the delay or reverb. Of course a working EQ would be a fine thing as well. I’ve had my fingers crossed for many months now and the news of the Mini or whatever they’re calling it has reignited my hopes. Not terribly interested in the Mini though…
