Thanks for your reply.
Yep, Tracker and Ableton set up as you describe… Ive tried syncing Ableton as the Master to Tracker and vice versa … Not a squeak from either!
I’ll try a different cable and restart the Mac … sometimes sorts any oddness out.
In Live, on your midi track, try All instead of Tracker or any specific midi channel. It worked for me without any problems but I would have to know exactly how everything is set on both to troubleshoot.
Anything Uber $500 gives me an itchy trigger finger. I used to see them at $450 sort of regularly. That’s less frequent after all the supply chain shortages and price bump, though. $480-90 still pops up, every once and a while.
Both the PT and M8 are wonderful. Very different experiences and workflows, though. It’s real tricky to choose between them. At ~$500 used, the Digitakt/tone is also a contender in the space, depending if you lean samples or FM. We’re really spoiled for choice.
Yeah, I make House music on my MPC One and OT and would like something more portable which lead me to the M8. But the Polyend works with battery packs which would make it portable as well. So for me I really like to be able to make a track swing well, chop samples and just mess with them until I create a sound that works and build off of that.
Polyend has less FX lanes which could be a huge pain, or maybe not. I like the look of both, Polyend seems like it has a lower learning curve. Its a tough call since my basic goal is to have something I can build a full track on and then sync my other gear to for filling any gaps (I have a DFAM, some synths and a bluebox I can record into).
May be a situation where I just have to get both and see, but thats pretty overwhelming and I’d like to get right into making tracks and not studying gear for too long.
I mean the MPC Live is portable ?
You may find it more productive to just upgrade your MPC One and just port all your projects across.
I had one (an MPC Live) and sold it when I got the Polyend Tracker … msinly because I didn’t like the touchscreen and already had an octatrack (3 samplers was 1 too many to justify)
M8 is unobtainium for a while at least anyway so you have time to think on it
Sharing this Polyend video featuring me in case any new Tracker owners missed it. Make a project, share it with Polyend (along with a video), and they will put you on the YouTubes and make you rich and famous. They are awesome.
Yeah of course but I prefer something different to work on. I like the tracker flow, I think it makes adding all the details required for me to finish and release a track a lot faster. I had the Live and liked it, but not enough to repurchase it.
I can get both the M8 and Polyend for the price of a Live to…so that’s a factor. Anyway, I decided I would get both and if one doesn’t click I can always sell it.
On a side note, I read that Renoise can open Polyend projects. Is that true? If that works, that could be a really cool alternative way to export stems.
I’m not sure about exporting to renoise
The “export song stems” on the polyend tracker works well though.
Getting both the m8 and polyend id a good approach… I’d be interested to hear how you find each
Hey there Tracker people ! Tomorow I have a new Tips & Tricks video for you, about the Chance FX mostly and how to use it in a dark ambient “generative music” context.
Premiere at 18:30 French time so feel free to come say hi in the chatroom or ask any questions
This is a rather long thread and its probably been mentioned here already, but I started thinking that the Analogue 4 could be a perfect companion to this device (along with my cell phone for grabbing new samples that I don’t have on the SD card). I loaded my Polyend already with 10 gigs of samples but I could run the Analog 4 through the Line in to monitor it and sample from that too. Plus since it is synced to the Polyend I could basically add 4 tracks of synthesis that I could record synced in to my 1010 Bluebox. Lets me use the Elektron sequencer in my tracks,
Anybody trying this combo? Seems like a super powerful mini setup that I can move around assemble with very low effort. I also ask because I found a really nice deal on a mint A4.
I have both but haven’t used them together yet, while I was house sitting for someone I had the A4 alone and did think that the tracker would be amazing for filling any gaps the A4 leaves and also if using the a4s multi map, you could use the tracker as a better song mode.
I have a decent bit of gear but the A4 has risen to my top 3 bits of gear over time as I more and more come to understand it
OT and Tracker is also a productive pair. Actually Tracker and any of the stuff I have; I’ve been swapping out op-1, mpc 1000 (a little too complicated at the moment), Moog GM, Sub 25, Live 11, guitar, bass, etc. If I keep it just the Tracker and one more device, it doesn’t get too crazy. Personally, I can only deal with two things at a time. Now you’ve got me wondering if I’d like to have an A4. That’s the one Elektron I’ve never owned. But alas, No Gear New Year and I must abide.
Yeah 2 devices is plenty. I can swap in my OT for sure. That is another very legit option. I decided to try the A4 because I got one locally for a really good price, plus it’s a synth which is the “weakness” of the Polyend. I feel like if I pop in the OT right now instead, I may lean on that too much since I am more familiar with the device and I want to get really good with learning all the sample mangling I can do on the Polyend first.
Also for me if the A4 was just a regular synth, I would pass but since it has 4 tracks, that really gives me a ton of options for adding movement and little sound details. Plus the sequencer aspect of it is a lot more appealing to me than just playing a keyboard and sampling into the Polyend. I already can do that in my studio with stuff now.
I was going to buy an M8 and compare it to the Polyend, but once I got this thing I immediately loved it and decided I will wait and see if I really want that. I know he already sold out of his new batch but I am sure I can get one down the road if I need. So I used that budget for the A4, and will see how it goes. The only negative here is I have 2 new devices to learn. So I am focusing on the Polyend for now and just have the A4 synced up and ready for me to dive in to that in a few days.
