I have the rounded button version, and my control knob seems pretty stable. I haven’t pushed on it or tried to wobble it, but under normal use, it actually feels quite solid. No sticky buttons so far.
Is the reverb glitching out, or just general glitching during sequence playback a known issue on the Tracker?
I guess what I’m characterizing is almost like audio dropping out or popping, kind of like what it sounds like when the processor is being pushed to hard. Does anyone know the internal specs on the Tracker?
Anyone else love pHATmatic Pro back in the day? Something about the PT’s beat-slicing interface, tracker grid, and large mass of little silicon chiclets put it in mind, and I dug up a bunch of the old factory loops. Sure enough, good times were had.
For such a super-constrained little box it’s surprisingly flexible.
Funny you should bring it up, as my very first pro sound design gig* was doing loops for pHATfree CM for Computer Music magazine. Within a couple of months I found myself writing and providing samples for CM. And nearly 19 years (and hundreds of thousands of patches and samples) later, you can find my sounds in Tracker (and my writing still appears in every issue of CM)
*excluding studio sessions
And I was having a heck of a time gelling with the PT at all until I loaded up some of the SH-09 samples you put in there. It’s the ciiiiiiiircle of liiiiiiiiife
I gotta tell you, that’s the kind of story I needed today! Thanks.
I too have noticed that higher reverb settings sometimes cause total audio drop out
I just noticed that the left arrow key jumps you back to the top of the sample list so you don’t have to use the jog wheel so much, but maybe everyone knew that…
My jog wheel’s solid. I’m on the rounded keys batch.
I’m still on the fence about this one. I’m really starting to gel with it and make things I like now, but batches of one shots or short loops in mono, I don’t think that’s my thing, no matter the level of awesome in the instrument.
I’m working on a new track with my Blackbox for a client, and the long loops that run independently of each other, the disconnection of the sequencer from the clip launching, not to mention the flexibility of the sequencer itself … it really is my way of working.
That’s not on the Tracker, though. I really like it. It really is defined, clear and well made. PolyEnd’s a real cool actor in the field of hardware instruments these days.
But I’m leaning more and more towards not keeping this for music making, since I kind of got what I want already.
And now, my mind’s made up. I’m not sticking to the Tracker.
But - it is a great kit. A fantastically creative instrument and extremely well made from PolyEnd. It deserves all success and credit and I’d have no trouble recommending this to friends and others. To me, it came down not to what the Tracker is and isn’t, but that I’m quite content with what I got and the Blackbox proved that yet again to me today.
how’s the midi sync with POLYEND with the back box either master or slave?
Haven’t tried. Midi ports failed on my Blackbox, tho a replacement is on its way.
That have to improve it. A ome weeks ago I tried jamming with a friend and ended making music without using midi sync
Firmware version 1.2.2 released :
1.2.2 official release
Features:
- Increased sequencer tempo accuracy,
Fixes:
- Improved performance of MPT file transfer,
- Improved file memory management in the Sample Loader,
PSA: Thomann has these in stock as of today.
I’m still getting the lag with the latest release, 1.2.2. I make it 18ms. Your mileage may vary. My testing wasn’t particularly scientific (just triggered the tracker and rd8 from the same external sequencer - squarp - and measured distance between hits)
I can only assume that the update text/feature “Increased sequencer tempo accuracy,”
refers to a reduction in tempo variation.
Still loving the tracker though… seems a prefect partner for the Octatrack
The midi latency will be fixed in the next update later this year.
That’s excellent news. Thanks for clarifying Peter
