I just have a very small BT dongle in my and use it with AirPods…latency not an issue with trackers as I am finger drumming.
What dongle model do you use?
Knowing Polyend this will be followed by a Mini+ within a year of its release…
Then Tracker Max…
Only because I had it anyway…mine just dangles but you could put a bit of Velcro on- there are other that just stick out like and antenna -there are other much smaller and maybe more suitable- this one looks cool-
Using the official pictures, it looks like the insides - the PCB, button / screen / microphone size & placement - and the outside will be the same, just different casing, glassy screen, white buttons (no different colors for Note/Inst/FX1/FX2), and “jog wheel” that actually hides old buttons underneath:
Can I be the first to say I prefer the OG in black with the coloured buttons
You may
However, the new look (and probably the feel in a hand) is - IMO - slicker, more “posh” and “premium” and probably tends to get greasy less, although it might damage more easily? The buttons are definitely a step back, though.
Yeah, I suspect (but I’m not certain) that it will be buttons that look like a jog wheel.
Honestly since I moved from the OG to the Mini I’ve never missed the jog wheel.
Polyend posted some promo video of the Tracker Mini on their Instagram today – I hope that means that they’re getting ready to put the 2.1 beta into production.
Thanks - all makes sense to me. The one big grid thing is exactly what I needed right now. Tbh I’d kinda decided I was going to get M8 ages ago but then a used sale fell through and I parked it - thought at the time that the Mini was too limited and linear, but the way it’s been going it seems like for me that’s actually an advantage.
Being able to see multiple tracks was what swung it in the end and looking like my instincts were pretty good on that. I feel like I have a lot of other tools that can get super complex, not something I have a problem with in my setup. But nothing that makes me drill down into the basics of putting a groove together like the Mini.
It was kinda an impulse buy after a few Renoise sessions and a good price so was worried I’d end up regretting it, but it just clicked more or less immediately. Like I say still probably will have to try a M8 eventually, but I don’t see that it’d replace the Mini for me.
Also, +1 for kinda preferring the OG looks wise, plus the coloured buttons are really helpful in practice.
Very cool- I wonder how much it will cost.
me too, even more I wonder if this will start other devs down the road of not saying no and thinking maybe more often?
From Forum-
I can say that a kit version for those who want to solder and assemble everything should be under $100. We have not worked out a price yet for the fully assembled product.
Polyend should team up and get this mass produced rather than making silver versions!
Not sure about the size with the additional dongle attached tbh, the base device is perfect for holding in two hands, personally will take that over getting minjacks on the side any day. Also not really sure about a little keyboard for note entry when I prefer to use my thumbs for everything on this box. I tried the note entry beta for a couple of weeks which does pretty much this in a different way and barely used that function so moved over to the usb audio one. So not sure I’d really need a keyboard, especially when it seems like it would impact on what I like about the mini in terms of ergonomics.
I guess a lot of this is personal to how I use the device, but for me in a tracker I’m always going to be happy enough just entering notes on the track rather than playing in, for me it’s a lot more what it’s about. But it’s nice that they’re doing it and probably will be great for some people. The speakers might be handy, but the one thing that’s caught my interest but isn’t explained in the video is what looks like a usb-a port on the side? Midi for external controllers?
What I really would like to see is smoother integration with Renoise / Redux as a way of bridging between the device and other gear. This looks quite handy, but it would be sweet if they’d find a way of doing a more complete export than the current .it files, always ends up being a bit bare bones.
i can relate to this, I like trackers for trackers, this is exactly why i don’t like trackers for doing mpc sh*t, it’s not the same
+1
I’d kill for the speakers on it, but the keyboard? Completely don’t need it. Never had it with Amiga in the 90s, don’t need it now either.
Indeed there are so many devices that will still do the playing in thing better this just seems a bit pointless especially as you now have keyboard mode which works perfectly.
If you are that bothered the Roland S1 does the job and is a full synth.
Or if you want more ooomph…
