Polyend Sequencer

I starting to hate April fool’s day. :joy:

Yes, I was totally interested in this larger version, then came the second thought…

But this one is for real

Know this video. Kind of a weird performance.

Polyend have just announced a killer deal: buy the SEQ, get the POLY module for free. That’s like a 450€ here in Europe…I like this thing so much I might pull the trigger, even though I don’t really know if I need it

I had one, and it’s brilliant for fast sketching - pretty much unrivalled… but in the end I sold it to fund my Octatrack, and I have never regretted it, even for a second.

It’s a beautiful looking instrument. Easy to GAS for but, for me, considering I never touch the midi side of my OT it’d end up gathering a huge amount of dust.

For those in the market for a sequencer and with some eurorack then it seems like an incredible deal.

Glad to know that because I already have an Octatrack, but I love how immediate things can be done on the SEQ. Octatrack is a different beast, but to be able to see all 32 steps of 8 tracks at the same time is just sequencing porn for me. I think I can live without it and keep using Octatrack…

You definitely can - there’s not really anything it can do that Octa can’t. Once they implement user chords per step / track, it’ll be a different animal but as stands that’s pretty prohibitive

This offer makes me wonder if the Seq will be discontinued to make way for the next version which I could imagine revert to having the euro outputs built in which I think they first thought would happen. If so then I’d personally prefer the Seq and Poly separate so another sequencer can be used to control Poly.

anyone here still using this? are you happy with it?

I´m very happy

How happy? I’m looking long term for a sequence solution for my Blackbox.

I am using it to play all my hardware synth (simultaneously if needed with different midi channels assigned) and a Clavia ND2 with a Midi thru Box from Kenton. Sync from OT and with a little Merger I have it additonally connected with a Arturia Keystep so I can play notes with it and record them to the Polyene if I like (chords as well).

In my opinion it is the best for playing Notes, not so much for “just” drum triggering, seems a bit of a overkill for that.

Concept is not just visual porn for me as stated. I think it is really helpful in a creative way, if that makes sense… and it makes lots of fun, definitely a keeper for me. Polyend takes good care of users, updates are solid as well.

Any cheap old iPad and the app koushion would be a much cheaper solution

Yes it is an investment and there are many cheaper solutions.
I tried an iPad as well, but I personally got never connected to this kind of working, others like it, thats fine. I need something to touch. Sold my Sequentix P3 to fund the Polyend and do not regret it. Its a unique piece of gear.

Yeah, tablets and phones don’t do it for me.

I doubt I’d ever go for the Polyend, it’s too expensive, but if I did, I’d use it to control the Blackbox for launching clips and build loops, string them together into songs and also automate cc stuff into the Bbox, if it can do that.

It’s a physical version of the Blackbox sequencer, the layout and idea is similar, so it would make sense. But a very expensive kind of sense😊

You can have one cc per row, makes seven. Not super much, but enough to have additional fun.

I personally don’t think it is too expensive, Elektron gear is “expensive”, too expensive? The Polyend is something special, just as Elektron gear is.

Not for what it does, but maybe for just running a Blackbox?

But I’d be prepared to shell it out if it completed my chain. It’s just a proper way to string longer sections together and add variation to them that I’m missing. But it’s like saying I got the movie, just need to get the tools to edit it together. Not exactly a small
part of it

I should add that I do all my stuff in the Bbox now, so it’s a central kit for me.

If you have the chance to get one for testing with your Blackbox, do it and see if it clicks for you … and if it is worth the extra dollar.

I could use my OT for sequencing as well, it is really good, but with the Polyend it really clicked, maybe because I have been also using a Monome for years and I was kinda waiting for a similar standalone version of it

You’re pushing all my buttons man. I tried the monome awhile back. A friend had it in his studio. I was like ”This thing without a computer, yes.”

There’s no Seq around here, so I’d have to try one on trial from Thomann. But that’s an option😊
